The Barbican is a multidisciplinary international arts centre in the City of London. Across its theatres, concert halls, cinemas, galleries, business venues, public and community spaces, the Barbican showcases the most exciting artists and performers from around the world, pushing traditional artistic boundaries and helping us understand our lives in new and unexpected ways. Each year, the Centre presents hundreds of different performances, events and exhibitions that entertain and inspire millions of people, create connections, provoke debate, and reflect the world we live in. Firmly rooted in its neighbourhood, the Barbican collaborates on projects with local communities, and supports young people and emerging talent to develop their artistic practice and access jobs in the creative industry.

The Role

As a People Officer, you'll play a key role in delivering a high-quality, timely and effective colleague life cycle service. You'll be the first point of contact for HR queries, lead recruitment campaigns, support onboarding and offboarding, and help maintain our HR systems and processes. You'll also contribute to projects, reporting, and continuous improvement initiatives across the People team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage recruitment campaigns and onboarding processes
  • Provide first-line HR advice to staff and managers
  • Maintain HR systems, trackers, and intranet content
  • Coordinate training administration and employee meetings
  • Support data reporting and dashboard development
  • Contribute to People team projects and continuous improvement
  • Provide cover and deputise for colleagues as needed

For the period of the fixed term contract, the purpose of this post will be biased towards supporting with recruitment and all associated recruitment activity in line with the grade.

About You

We're looking for someone with:

  • CIPD Certificate in Personnel Practice or equivalent experience
  • Demonstrable HR experience, particularly focused on recruitment, and knowledge of HR systems (e.g. iTrent, SAP)
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • A proactive, solutions-focused approach and commitment to confidentiality
