About The Groucho Club
The Groucho exists to keep Soho’s artistic, liberal spirit burning bright, and to champion London’s role as a creative powerhouse on the world stage.
A joyful, generous and welcoming space for ideas, creative life and the occasional late night.
Born in 1985 as the antidote to the cloistered gentlemen’s clubs of London’s Mayfair, The Groucho Club was founded on a radical idea: that good company is the kind chosen by ideas rather than status, that emerging voices belong in the same room as established ones, and that culture is made through conversation, collision and curiosity.
Forty years on, that belief still drives everything we do.
We exist to facilitate the conversations that shape culture now and next, to back the people making it, and to keep Soho generous, welcoming and alive to creative possibility.
We host, we don’t serve.
Members and guests are people we know, not names on a list.
Barback
We are looking for a Barback with energy, instinct, and an eye for detail, someone who understands that the magic behind the bar starts long before the first drink is poured.
This role is about anticipation, preparation, and seamless support, ensuring that everything runs smoothly so our bartenders can shine and our members enjoy an effortless experience.
With a positive, can-do attitude and a natural sense of teamwork, you’ll be the backbone of the bar operation.
You’ll move with purpose, stay one step ahead, and take pride in the details that others might miss, because those details are what elevate an experience from good to exceptional.
Why is this so important?
Because every polished glass, every perfectly prepared garnish, and every well-stocked station contributes to the rhythm and flow of the bar.
And here at the Groucho Club, that experience is everything, it’s what keeps our space vibrant, slick, and unforgettable.
- What You’ll Be Doing
- Preparing fresh garnishes and condiments to specification, ensuring everything is ready for service and presented to the highest standard.
- Keeping the bar fully stocked and organised, from glassware to spirits, so service runs seamlessly and efficiently.
- Collecting, cleaning, and redistributing glassware, making sure every piece is spotless and ready for use.
- Maintaining clean, well-organised storage areas, fridges, and service stations, because great service starts behind the scenes.
- Supporting bartenders during service with speed and awareness, ensuring they have everything they need exactly when they need it.
- Managing waste and maintaining cleanliness across all bar areas, including floors, bins, and back-of-house spaces.
- Monitoring bar flow and proactively removing used glassware and resetting the space to keep it looking sharp and inviting at all times.
- Assisting with deliveries, moving and stocking products across the Club with care and efficiency.
- Ensuring all equipment, including glass washers and hand sinks, is fully functional and stocked with necessary supplies.
- Playing an active role in maintaining the overall pace and energy of the bar, contributing to a smooth, consistent service for both members and the team.
- What Makes You a Great Fit
- Experience in a similar role is preferred, but most importantly, you bring a strong work ethic and willingness to learn.
- Energetic and proactive, you see what needs to be done and act without hesitation.
- A team player through and through, you thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
- Organised and detail-focused, you take pride in keeping your space clean, stocked, and ready.
- Calm and resilient under pressure, you keep moving with purpose even during the busiest services.
- Friendly and approachable, with a natural warmth that contributes to a positive atmosphere for both members and colleagues.
- Strong communicator, able to work closely with bartenders and floor staff to keep service flowing.
- Physically capable and prepared for an active role, including lifting, carrying, and moving stock across multiple floors.
- Flexible and adaptable, ready to support wherever needed with a positive, can-do mindset.
- Why You’ll Love It Here
- Competitive salary.
- 28 days holiday inc. bank holidays, pro-rata
- Wagestream to support your financial wellbeing.
- Nutritious meals made by our team.
- Pension scheme.
- Employee Assistance Programme with Hospitality Action.
- Refer a Friend Scheme – earn up to £1,000 when you successfully refer a friend.
