Reports to: Restaurant Manager and Maître d’.

Start: Immediate.

Bar Finch is an all-day bar and restaurant on Cork Street, in the heart of Mayfair. It is owner‑operated and small in scale, taking its lead from the classic Italian aperitivo bar. We serve well‑made classics, a proper drinks list and old‑school European service in a room of quiet, understated luxury. We are open from breakfast through to the aperitivo hour, five days a week. We are a small business and we want Bar Finch to be a place people are glad to come to work. We hold high standards and we keep them without shouting or drama; we believe good work comes from a calm, well‑run, respectful environment. We train our people properly, promote from within, and offer a benefits package and welfare support. Our team has trained at St John, Chez Panisse, Rules, Andrew Edmunds and Rita’s, amongst others.

The role

As a Waiter you will look after a section of the room and deliver warm, attentive, old‑school service from welcome through to farewell. You will report to the Restaurant Manager and Maître d’, and work closely with the kitchen, the bar, and the runners.

Responsibilities

  • Look after your section of tables across the full sequence of service.
  • Know the menu, daily specials, and allergens, and describe them well.
  • Take orders accurately, make recommendations, and serve food and drink to standard.
  • Keep the pace and flow of service, keep your station laid up and ready.
  • Handle bills and payments correctly.
  • Read your tables, anticipate guests’ needs, and deal with any request or problem calmly.
  • Serve alcohol responsibly and carry out age checks where needed.
  • Keep to our standards of cleanliness, hygiene, and presentation.

What we are looking for

  • Waiting experience, ideally in a quality restaurant.
  • An interest in food, wine and cocktails, or a real eagerness to learn it.
  • A natural, generous manner with guests.
  • Attention to detail and composure when it is busy.
  • Reliability, good timekeeping and a smart, tidy presentation.

Developing with us

We will teach you our wines, our drinks, and our way of doing service, with supplier visits and tastings along the way. We promote from within for those who want to progress towards Head Waiter and management.

Pay and benefits

  • Pay: £13.50, plus a share of the Service Charge.
  • Paid holiday in line with statutory entitlement (28 days pro rata, including bank holidays).
  • A staff meal on every shift.
  • An excellent benefits package, including staff welfare support.
  • Structured training, with supplier visits, tastings and events.
  • Genuine career progression in a growing, owner‑operated business.
