About the Role
As the Clinical Nurse Specialist, you will be responsible for providing high-level clinical support and assessment for residents while also providing clinical leadership, support, and mentoring for Registered Nurses in the Aged Care Home. You will use your clinical expertise, leadership, and clear communication skills to assist with the provision of high-quality clinical care. With a strong understanding of quality clinical care, you will lead, inspire, and educate care professionals to promote continual improvement of clinical care in the Aged Care Home. This role offers the opportunity to specialize in a clinical area such as palliative and dementia care while also providing a high level of general clinical expertise. This role will be permanent part-time – 2 days per week, 30 hours per fortnight.
Key Responsibilities
- Clinical Support: Identify residents requiring clinical review and undertake clinical assessments. Develop and implement care plans in consultation with the clinical team and residents. Provide support, education, and mentoring to the clinical team. Offer clinical support for unplanned incidents such as sudden clinical deterioration.
- Clinical Specialization: Provide high-quality clinical care and lead improvements in team knowledge and skill application. Develop and utilize a specialized area of practice to enhance resident care.
- Quality, Continuous Improvement and Risk: Promote best practices and support employees in providing the highest quality of care. Educate Registered Nurses and Enrolled Nurses to maintain up-to-date clinical knowledge. Ensure completion of clinical documentation supporting funding. Participate in clinical meetings to identify and develop solutions for clinical care trends.
- Professional Practice: Maintain current professional practice and ongoing development. Comply with statutory regulations and standards of practice as a Registered Nurse. Identify and promote networking opportunities to support professional practice.
- Work Health & Safety (WHS): Work safely to minimise risks to self and others. Comply with WHS policies and procedures. Report hazards, near misses, or incidents appropriately. Participate in Return to Work plans following workplace injuries.
Key Requirements
Essential Qualifications and Experience: Registered Nurse with a minimum of five years of experience. Clinical leadership in an Aged Care setting. Demonstrated understanding and application of adult learning principles. Postgraduate qualifications in a specialized clinical area related to aged care. One year experience working in the area of the post graduate qualification or aged care.
Essential Competencies: Understanding and appreciation of BaptistCare’s Christian identity and values. Knowledge of the Aged Care Quality and Safety Standards.
Desirable Qualifications and Experience: Three or more years working in aged care.
Other Important Information: Weekend work may be required. Completion of prescribed mandatory training and annual appraisal development processes. Police Background Check and NDIS check (if relevant) are mandatory. Additional tasks may be required based on qualifications, skills, knowledge, and experience.
