Great hours - Monday to Friday 6.30am to 3pm.

About the role:

Nestled in the peaceful and scenic bushland of Wagga Wagga, Caloola Centre provides quality, specialist support to a well-loved community on beautifully landscaped gardens nearby to the shops, clubs, and church. Reporting to the Residential Manager, you will lead and manage staff and resources efficiently to deliver the highest quality and safety in food services. Mealtimes are very important to residents, often a time they look forward to, so continuous improvement in the meals we offer is vital. You will need to speak directly to our residents, gaining their feedback and making adjustments. Your creativity with food and expertise in dining environments make this a unique opportunity to enrich the lives of our 80 residents.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Overseeing commercial cooking operations & staff supervision.
  • Oversee stock for HELF residents.
  • Ordering, invoicing & auditing.
  • Stock control, preparing menus, adhering to the budget.
  • Ensuring high quality presentation of all meals to residents.
  • Mid-High quantity cooking (80 clients) as required for leave cover.
  • Assist roster clerk with roster at times.
  • Oversee the cafe in ordering, invoices and auditing.
  • Assist with special event lunches and happy hours throughout the year.
  • Work with a 4-week rotating menu.
  • Attend 1-month residents food focus meeting.
  • Teamwork with Leisure and Lifestyle team for food-based activities.
  • General administrative responsibilities to support day-to-day operations.

About you:

The ideal candidate will have:

  • At least 5 years’ Chef experience post completion of apprenticeship in a large catering or multi-outlet environment.
  • A Qualification in Commercial Cookery, Certificate III of Proficiency, or other recognised certification such as armed forces qualifications.
  • Demonstrated application of knowledge of HACCP, FSANZ and NSW Food Authority standards and principles.
  • Sound competence and experience in the management of high quality food services, e.g. fine dining restaurant or similar.
  • Sound experience in kitchen management, effective staff leadership, staff development, financial control, and customer service.
  • Sound knowledge and experience in the preparation of menus in accordance with dietary requirements.
  • Demonstrated ability utilising effective oral and written communications skills.
