Baptist Health Princeton Hospital is seeking a qualified nurse to administer patient care in an inpatient setting for patients with advanced illnesses or injuries requiring complex, timely care to stabilize and support their medical condition. This role requires a lower caregiver-to-patient ratio and highly trained team members with advanced skills.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate critical knowledge, skills, and judgment for caring for patients requiring complex assessment, therapies, and high-level interventions.
  • Utilize assessment data to anticipate and respond to rapidly changing patient conditions.
  • Identify and prioritize information to take immediate, evidence-based, patient-focused actions.
  • Monitor and adjust specialized equipment, interpret electronic displays, and respond to life-saving situations according to standards and protocols.
  • Assess patient needs, develop and revise individualized care plans, and evaluate patient progress.
  • Build respectful relationships with team members and patients, respecting diversity.
  • Serve as a patient and family advocate, and function as a preceptor, charge nurse, educator, or clinician as needed.
  • Communicate and collaborate effectively with medical staff and interdisciplinary teams.
  • Provide age-appropriate care, coordinate care, delegate tasks, and document patient care accurately and according to standards.
  • Demonstrate competency in nursing skills and equipment use, prioritize patient care, and practice effective problem resolution.
  • Delegate tasks appropriately, communicate patient condition and concerns, and provide compassionate care respecting patients’ rights.
  • Support the education and transition of new team members and students.
  • Maintain attendance in accordance with hospital policies and ensure compliance with all relevant standards and policies.

Specific Essential Functions for ECMO Specialist

  • Provide daily staffing for ECMO services, working under the direction of unit leadership and collaborating with the healthcare team.
  • Ensure proper perfusion, acid-base balance, and hemodynamic stability in ECMO patients.
  • Interpret, adjust, and complete treatment-specific care for ECMO patients, troubleshooting crises as needed.
  • Operate ECMO equipment safely and efficiently, monitor and optimize ECMO circuits, and administer blood products and medications through ECMO when ordered.
  • Manage ECMO during transport, ensure continuous coverage, and participate in mandatory simulations.

Other Related Functions

  • Contribute to team knowledge, skills, and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Participate in committees, peer reviews, mentoring, and professional development activities.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment, and attend staff development and meetings.
  • Partner with leadership to identify and pursue professional growth opportunities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, including equipment maintenance and providing support to other units as needed.

Qualifications

  • Education/Training: Graduate of an approved nursing school. Meet all competency requirements for the hospital and department.
  • Licensure/Certification: Current Alabama RN license or valid eNLC multistate license. Current BLS/Healthcare Provider certification. ACLS, NRP, PALS, TNCC required for specific areas; NRP for NICU.
  • Experience: Minimum of 1 year of nursing experience, unless approved otherwise by leadership.
