Position Summary

Administers patient care in an area where patients come for treatment and typically return home the same day or care takes place in a post-acute transitional care setting.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions

  1. Utilizes the unique knowledge, skills, and competencies required in ambulatory care nursing practice to promote wellness, restore health, address health-related situational problems, and/or support end-of-life care.
  2. Assesses patients’ needs and applies current ambulatory care nursing knowledge and evidence-based nursing practice when developing an individualized plan of care for each patient.
  3. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patient served on the assigned unit.
  4. Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the lifespan, assesses patient data, and interprets necessary information to identify each patient’s requirements relative to age-specific needs.
  5. Prescribes, delegates, coordinates, and documents patient care in a knowledgeable, skillful, and consistent manner, including patient assessment, education, medication administration, treatments, and patient safety.
  6. Demonstrates competency in nursing skills and use of patient care/unit equipment as defined by unit-specific skills.
  7. Prioritizes patient care continuously in accordance with Evidence-Based Practice Standards of Care.
  8. Practices effective problem identification and resolution.
  9. Delegates tasks and duties to healthcare team members based on patient needs and team members’ capabilities and qualifications.
  10. Communicates relevant patient condition or unit concern information to other healthcare team members.
  11. Maintains a safe and caring environment for patients and families.
  12. Integrates patient and family education throughout the delivery of care.
  13. Participates in Process Improvement activities as assigned.
  14. Maintains awareness of legal issues, patients’ rights, and compliance with regulatory and accrediting standards.
  15. Maintains regular, punctual attendance consistent with policies and standards such as ADA, FMLA, and others.
  16. Ensures compliance with all organizational policies and procedures.

Other Related Functions

  1. Contributes to the knowledge and skills of others and the continuous improvement of healthcare practice and organizational outcomes.
  2. Participates and may lead nursing practice and performance improvement committees.
  3. Engages in peer review, mentoring, and coaching regarding professional practice.
  4. Practices efficient use of supplies and maintains a clean, safe, and organized unit.
  5. Provides input into staff development, hospital and nursing committees, research activities, and performance management.
  6. Responsible for personal professional development and continuing education.
  7. Performs all other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education/Training

  • Graduate of an approved school of nursing.
  • Meets all mandatory, developmental, and performance competency requirements for Orlando Health and the specific unit/department.

Licensure/Certification

  • Maintains current licensure as a registered nurse in the State of Florida or Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC).
  • Maintains current BLS/Healthcare Provider certification.
  • ACLS, NRP, PALS, TNCC are required for certain areas.

Experience

  • Minimum of 1 year of nursing experience required unless approved by AVP level or above.
