This high-impact role is ideal for someone who thrives in a dynamic environment, has deep experience with the pan-European payments ecosystem, and can lead cross-functional initiatives across diverse software businesses. The ideal candidate will act as a centralized payments expert—identifying strategic opportunities, negotiating with payment providers, and ensuring the successful implementation of payment solutions that create tangible value.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategic Revenue Enablement: Identify, assess, and execute on payments-related revenue opportunities across the portfolio, including transaction fees, embedded finance, interchange, and other monetization levers. Design and implement go-to-market and selling strategies for payments solutions in partnership with portfolio companies—working closely with founders and commercial teams to drive adoption and revenue impact. Act as a hands-on operator: a problem solver who can both create strategy and roll up their sleeves to implement it. Serve as a thought partner and enabler for sales hiring and performance, helping companies build scalable commercial motions. Develop performance benchmarks, financial impact models, and tracking mechanisms to quantify and optimize realized gains.
  • M&A and Due Diligence: Support in assessing the payments infrastructure and commercial opportunity for each acquisition target. Estimate the addressable payments revenue opportunity based on industry benchmarks, customer profiles, and current provider arrangements. Design post-acquisition integration plans that outline clear steps to generate incremental payment-related revenue for the acquired business.
  • Payment Provider & Fintech Partnerships: Own and manage relationships with key payment service providers (PSPs), ISOs, and other fintech vendors. Lead commercial negotiations to secure competitive rates and favourable terms. Establish and maintain a network of trusted providers aligned with Banyan’s long-term goals.
  • Cross-Functional Execution & Enablement: Collaborate with product, engineering, finance, and operations teams across companies to deploy and optimize payment strategies. Act as a subject matter expert, supporting business leaders through workshops, implementation checklists, and ongoing advisory. Ensure compliance with regional payment regulations and data security standards (e.g., PSD2, PCI-DSS, GDPR).
  • Technical Integration & Implementation: Translate negotiated agreements and strategies into actionable playbooks and documentation for use by portfolio companies. Work closely with internal stakeholders and business leaders to support the rollout of payment solutions, ensuring alignment with product, legal, and compliance requirements. Serve as a consultative partner to help troubleshoot technical and operational challenges during implementation.

Qualifications

  • Relevant experience in payments, fintech, or embedded finance, with a significant focus on the European payments ecosystem.
  • Proven ability to drive revenue and cost savings via strategic payment initiatives.
  • Deep knowledge of payment infrastructure (gateways, acquiring banks, POS systems, APIs, terminals) and practical experience implementing online and point of sale payment technologies into vertical or B2B SaaS environments.
  • Strong commercial negotiation skills and established relationships with European payment providers.
  • Experience working in a decentralised or multi-business environment is a strong plus.
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and analytical capabilities.
