A UK-based engineering organisation operating in a regulated, high-reliability technology environment is seeking a Production RF Test Engineer to strengthen its manufacturing test capability. The role sits at the interface between production, engineering, and quality, with responsibility for resolving complex RF test issues, improving test robustness, and ensuring new products are genuinely production-ready before volume build. This position is suited to an experienced RF engineer who prefers hands-on technical ownership in manufacturing, rather than pure design or routine testing.

Key Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and resolve complex RF and microwave test failures within a production environment
  • Provide day-to-day technical support and guidance to RF test technicians
  • Perform advanced RF analysis using VNAs, spectrum analysers, power meters and related instrumentation
  • Act as the production test authority during introduction of new or updated products, including:
  • Validation and acceptance of test methods, fixtures and automated test programmes
  • Ensuring tests are repeatable, stable and suitable for ongoing production use
  • Make informed decisions on test limits, product acceptance and concessions within defined processes
  • Work collaboratively with engineering and quality functions to address recurring issues and improve yield
  • Analyse production test data to identify trends, root causes and improvement opportunities
  • Create and maintain clear test documentation, troubleshooting guides and standard procedures
  • Essential Experience

    • Degree, HNC/HND or equivalent experience in Electronics, RF or Microwave Engineering
    • Significant hands-on experience in RF/microwave testing or diagnostics within a manufacturing or production setting
    • Experience working with RF systems incorporating optical or fibre-based signal transport
    • Strong practical knowledge of RF test equipment including VNAs, spectrum analysers and signal generators
    • Solid understanding of RF system behaviour (gain, linearity, VSWR, P1dB, noise figure, etc.)
    • Confident fault-finding at PCB, module and subsystem level
    • Clear communicator with a structured, analytical approach to problem solving

    Desirable Experience

    • Exposure to automated or semi-automated test environments (e.g. LabVIEW, TestStand, Python)
    • Experience supporting manufacturing transfer, sustaining engineering or production test improvement
    • Background in regulated, high-reliability electronics sectors

    What’s on Offer

    • A technically senior, hands-on role with genuine influence over production test performance
    • Long-term stability within an established engineering organisation
    • Opportunity to shape how RF products are tested, supported and scaled in production
    • On-site role working closely with technicians and engineers rather than remote or siloed testing
