The Role
We are seeking an experienced Project Manager to join a growing, high-technology engineering business delivering complex, multi-disciplinary programmes. This role sits at the heart of engineering delivery and will manage a varied portfolio including new product development, bespoke customer projects, internal improvement initiatives, and research or proof-of-concept work. You will work closely with senior engineering leadership to bring structure, predictability, and clarity to technically complex projects, often starting from incomplete or evolving requirements. The environment is hands-on, fast-moving, and collaborative, with shared engineering resources across multiple concurrent projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead engineering projects from initiation through delivery, ensuring scope, cost, schedule, and quality are controlled
- Translate early or unclear inputs into defined requirements, delivery plans, and realistic schedules
- Develop and manage work breakdown structures, cost estimates, and project plans
- Coordinate multi-disciplinary teams across electronics, hardware, firmware, software, manufacturing, and supply chain
- Manage risks, dependencies, and resource conflicts across parallel projects
- Control change and scope creep, clearly communicating delivery impacts to stakeholders
- Support bids and proposals, providing delivery timelines and contributing to tender responses
- Ensure appropriate documentation, reviews, and milestone evidence are produced
- Build strong relationships with internal teams and external customers
- Contribute to continuous improvement of project and engineering processes
About You
You are an organised, steady Project Manager who brings structure and calm to complex technical environments. You don’t need to be a deep technical specialist, but you understand how engineering and manufacturing projects really work and can ask the right questions at the right time. You are comfortable managing multiple projects with shared resources and influencing without direct authority. You communicate clearly, challenge ambiguity constructively, and are confident managing expectations with both engineers and customers.
Essential Experience
- Proven experience managing engineering or manufacturing projects
- Background in electronics, hardware, or technology-led product development environments
- Strong planning, scheduling, and cost control capability
- Experience delivering multiple projects in parallel
- Familiarity with structured project methodologies (e.g. PRINCE2, APMP or similar)
- Experience working with both agile and stage-gate style development lifecycles
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-growing, evolving organisation
Desirable Experience
- Exposure to defence, secure communications, RF, electronics, or complex systems
- Experience supporting bids, proposals, or customer-funded development programmes
- Understanding of manufacturing readiness and production handover
What’s On Offer
- Competitive salary and bonus scheme
- Pension and life assurance
- Share incentive scheme
- 25 days holiday plus bank holidays (with buy/sell options)
- Employee assistance and wellbeing support
- Cycle to work scheme
- Long-term career development in a growing technology business delivering meaningful engineering programmes
