UK Remote | UK & EMEA Territory | Permanent

Banner Lane is supporting a specialist UK engineering and communications technology business in the appointment of a Business Development Manager to support continued growth across the UK and EMEA. The company designs and manufactures high-performance RF and fibre-optic communications technology used across satellite communications, broadcast, telecommunications, defence and other technically demanding environments. This is a hands-on commercial role combining new-business development, existing account growth and channel development. The successful candidate will take ownership of an agreed regional territory, working directly with customers while also developing distributors, agents, integrators and other commercial partners.

The Role

You will be responsible for developing new and existing business across a portfolio of RF and communications products and systems. Many opportunities begin with a specific product requirement before developing into broader technical solutions. You will work closely with customers to understand their applications, identify additional opportunities and coordinate with internal engineering teams to develop the appropriate technical and commercial solution.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Identifying new customers and building a qualified sales pipeline across the UK and selected EMEA markets
  • Developing existing accounts and identifying opportunities for additional revenue
  • Building relationships with technical, commercial and procurement stakeholders
  • Working with engineering teams to understand customer requirements and develop appropriate solutions
  • Preparing quotations and supporting pricing, margin, negotiation and commercial decisions
  • Developing distributors, agents, VARs and other channel partners while identifying gaps in market coverage
  • Identifying OEM, integration and complementary technology opportunities
  • Maintaining accurate forecasts and CRM information while representing the business at customer meetings and industry events

The Person

We are looking for somebody who combines commercial drive with genuine technical curiosity. You do not need to be an RF engineer, but you should be comfortable discussing technical products and applications with customers and working alongside engineers to develop solutions. Relevant experience could come from RF and microwave technology, satellite communications, fibre optics, antennas, telecommunications, broadcast, test and measurement, defence or aerospace electronics, photonics or related communications hardware.

We would particularly like to speak with candidates who can demonstrate:

  • Experience in technical sales, business development, account management, applications engineering or another customer-facing technical role
  • Evidence of personally generating new business and developing sales pipeline
  • Experience selling technical products, systems or engineered solutions
  • A practical understanding of RF, communications or related electronics, or the aptitude to develop this quickly
  • Strong customer relationship, negotiation and commercial skills
  • Experience with distributors, agents or channel partners would be advantageous
  • A proactive and entrepreneurial approach to developing customers, territories and markets

Previous experience within satellite communications, telecoms, defence, space or broadcast would be advantageous, but exact sector experience is less important than strong technical-commercial capability and an appetite for creating new business.

The Opportunity

This is an opportunity to join an established and growing specialist technology business with a strong engineering heritage and international customer base. Existing customers, products, engineering support and channel relationships are already in place, while there remains significant scope to develop new accounts, strengthen partner coverage and identify new applications and markets. The role is home-based, with regular travel expected across the UK and selected EMEA markets. The package includes a competitive base salary, commission scheme, car allowance, pension, share incentive plan, group life insurance, 25 days' annual leave plus bank holidays and additional employee benefits.
