A typical day in the life of a Senior Fitness Manager
- Take overall responsibility for the day-to-day operation and performance of the fitness department, alongside supporting the wider club through duty management responsibilities.
- Lead, motivate, coach and develop the fitness team, including Fitness Advisors, Personal Trainers and Group Exercise Instructors, creating a high-performing and engaged team.
- Set clear expectations and drive departmental KPIs, using performance data and member feedback to identify opportunities for improvement and deliver results.
- Support the recruitment, onboarding, training and development of fitness team members, ensuring colleagues have the skills, knowledge and confidence to succeed.
- Take ownership of the fitness department budget, including monitoring expenditure, forecasting and managing freelance Group Exercise Instructor costs effectively.
- Ensure the club consistently meets Bannatyne fitness standards, taking ownership of audit outcomes and implementing action plans where required.
- Develop and deliver innovative fitness initiatives, programmes and classes that increase member engagement, participation, retention and overall satisfaction.
- Work closely with the General Manager and wider management team to contribute to the overall commercial and operational success of the club.
- Monitor fitness department performance and identify opportunities to increase revenue through Personal Training, fitness services, classes, programmes and other relevant offerings.
- Support the delivery of an outstanding member journey, ensuring fitness services are accessible, engaging and tailored to the needs of the membership.
- Conduct and oversee fitness assessments, programme development and Personal Training where appropriate, maintaining a visible and credible presence on the gym floor.
- Ensure the fitness environment is safe, clean, well maintained and consistently meets Bannatyne standards.
- Monitor member satisfaction and proactively address feedback, concerns and complaints to ensure a positive member experience.
- Keep up to date with emerging fitness trends, technology and industry developments, identifying opportunities to enhance the club's fitness offering.
- Promote Bannatyne services, initiatives, special offers and membership opportunities, working collaboratively with the wider club team to support membership and retention objectives.
- Lead by example, demonstrating exceptional customer service, professionalism and a genuine passion for health, fitness and wellbeing.
Are you an experienced fitness professional with a proven track record of leadership and management?
Do you have the skills, passion and commercial awareness to lead a high-performing fitness team and take the member experience to the next level?, NVQ Level 2 Fitness qualified.
- Proven experience managing a fitness department or team within the fitness, health, leisure or wellness industry.
- Strong leadership experience, with the ability to motivate, coach, develop and hold a team accountable for performance.
- Demonstrable experience of managing KPIs and using performance information to drive improvements and achieve results.
- Strong commercial awareness, with an understanding of budgets, forecasting, revenue generation and cost control.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with members, colleagues and stakeholders.
- A confident and inspirational leader who can establish rapport, build trust and demonstrate credibility.
- A strong understanding of current fitness trends, technology and best practice.
- A genuine passion for health, fitness, wellbeing and delivering an exceptional member experience.
- Highly organised, proactive and able to manage multiple priorities in a busy club environment.
- The ability to work flexibly, including evenings, weekends and bank holidays.
It would be desirable if you were Level 3 or equivalent Gym Instruction/Personal Training or Group Exercise qualified (including in ETM, Spin etc).
