Due to continued business growth, we are seeking an Assistant Accountant to join our finance team. Reporting to the Property and Homes Finance Manager, this role will play a key part within the finance department, providing support to the Group Financial Accountant while also contributing to the wider Group finance team. You will be responsible for assisting with a range of financial and accounting activities.
Key Duties & Responsibilities:
- Complete month end accruals, prepayments and balance sheet reconciliations.
- Collate data for periodic reports to lenders, bond providers and insurers.
- Support with the preparation, check and submit monthly/quarterly VAT returns for Group.
- Support with the preparation, check and submit monthly/quarterly CIS returns for Group.
- Assist with the preparation of management accounts as required, and within the relevant timeframes.
- Initially this will be focussed on the Property and Homes management accounts, but overtime the expectation is that the focus will be on other management accounts such as Banks Mining or Banks Group management accounts.
- Support the Finance Team with invoice processing, ensuring timely payment by co-ordinating with internal departments.
- Provide holiday cover for the procurement team.
- Build strong relationships with internal teams to enhance collaboration and efficiency.
- Communicate effectively with suppliers, verifying changes to contact details and banking information.
- Support with the management of bank accounts across Group entities including reconciliations and daily monitoring to ensure appropriate funds are in the correct accounts.
- Assist with year-end files, preparation of statutory accounts and collating audit documentation.
- Assist with ad-hoc tasks assigned by the Property and Homes Finance Manager, Property and Homes Commercial Finance Manager, Group Financial Accountant and Group Financial Controller, as required.
Key Contacts:
You will report directly to the Property and Homes Finance Manager and will work closely with the Property and Homes Commercial Finance Manager, Group Financial Accountant and Group Financial Controller by way of regular conversations to discuss and address specific issues.
Qualifications, Knowledge & Experience:
- AAT qualified or CIMA/ACCA qualified or part qualified.
- Must have proven previous experience in an accounts or finance role.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel.
- Experience of assisting with the preparation of management accounts.
- Experience using COINs, Dimensions and Focal Point or similar systems.
- Relevant construction industry experience.
- Previous treasury experience.
- An understanding of VAT and CIS.
- Highly motivated to deliver reports and returns to timescale and strive for accurate reporting of transactions.
- Able to understand banking agreements to ensure their terms and requirements are met.
- Team working and flexibility to aid resilience – you must be prepared to cover for other members of the finance department if required.
