Barts Health NHS Trust are searching for an experienced ST1 - ST4+ Emergency Medicine Doctor to join their highly skilled team at Newham University Hospital. Barts Health is one of Britain’s leading healthcare providers and the largest trust in the NHS.
The Role
To provide clinical care to patients whilst also using the post as a learning forum to maintain good medical practice, and to strive towards maintaining one's personal development through learning, teaching and managerial opportunities. The duties of the post are subject to review from time to time in the light of changing requirements of the service. The post holder may be asked to perform exceptional irregular commitments outside of normal rostered duties as are essential to maintain the emergency medical service.
Main Duties
- The post-holder will be part of the SHO rota and attend departmental teaching programme sessions, including simulation training.
- An educational supervisor will be allocated and support will be provided for portfolio development.
- The Emergency Department (ED) at Newham University Hospital (NUH) in East London sees over 90,000 emergency patients every year and an average of 500 patients per day.
- NUH provides all the services expected of a district general hospital including acute medicine, specialist medicine, critical care, child health, women’s health, surgery, long‑term care and diagnostics.
- The successful candidate will work across all areas of the department, including our co‑located Adult and Paediatric Clinical Decision Units, as well as Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC).
- You will be expected to see, evaluate and provide treatment to patients presenting to the ED in a timely manner.
- NUH ED prides itself on providing a Consultant‑led service; Consultants are available for advice and supervision of junior members of staff on the shop‑floor from 08:00–24:00 every day.
Requirements
- Medical qualification from a recognised University or Medical School
- Full Registration with the General Medical Council
- Completed FY2 or equivalent
- Knowledge and skills commensurate with completion of FY2 or equivalent
- The applicant must be of good standing and fit to practise medicine safely in accordance with GMC’s Good Medical Practice domains.
