St Bartholomew's Hospital (Barts) are searching for an experienced and passionate Band 6 Paediatric Audiologist to join their highly skilled team at the Royal London Hospital. Our group of hospitals provide a huge range of clinical services to people in east London and beyond. We operate from four major hospital sites (The Royal London, St Bartholomew's, Whipps Cross and Newham) and a number of community locations, including Mile End hospital. Around 2.5 million people living in east London look to our services to provide them with the healthcare they need.

Please note this is a full time, permanent position of 37.5 hours per week, however part time/job share will be considered. The successful candidate will be expected to work flexibly and help meet the needs of the service.

Job Summary

  • Perform specialist diagnostic procedures, and provide a comprehensive specialist hearing aid service to children, including determining care plans for individual patients, and involving carers and families as appropriate.
  • Assist with the day-to-day management for Hackney and Tower Hamlets Paediatric Audiology.
  • Take an active role in areas of clinical audit, research and clinical governance for the Audiology service, which may include designing and completing audits within own field, participating in data collection for larger projects, and contributing to the development of evidence base protocols.
  • Plan and prioritise elements of own workload, within the framework of service delivery priorities as defined by the Clinical Lead and Operational Service Manager, and supervise the work of other members of the team as appropriate, including junior audiologists, trainees and students.
  • Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team in City and Hackney and Tower Hamlets, within professional boundaries.
  • Be ultimately accountable to the Head of Service, and seek guidance from peers or senior staff whenever necessary.
  • Carry out all Audiological procedures according to national, professional and local protocols. Justify and document any contraindications or necessary deviation from protocol in the case notes and/or medical notes, seeking guidance on justification if required.
  • Maintain empathy and rapport with the patient during testing to maximise the quality of test results and minimise patient anxiety including identifying the relevant concerns of the patient, any contraindications to procedures, and explaining and carrying out procedures.
  • Accurately record the outcome of any patient contact in the case and/or medical notes (either in writing or electronically), including devices, documentation or advice given, and any relevant information or observations relating to the patient or the test conditions.
  • Ensure preparation of clinic rooms and equipment prior to and after clinic sessions, including calibration checks. Ensure careful use of all expensive equipment, and identification of faults in line with local procedures.

Person Specification

  • BSc Audiology OR BTEC qualification in Medical Physics and Physiological Measurement & successfully completed both parts of BAAT I and II (or equivalent).
  • Registered to practice as an Audiologist with the Registration Council for Clinical Physiologists (RCCP).
  • Theoretical and practical knowledge of Paediatric Audiology, and advanced Audiological test techniques.
  • An awareness of national Audiology and NHS developments.
  • Evidence of CPD.
  • NHS experience within Paediatric Audiology, including behavioural assessment and rehabilitation.
