North Middlesex University Hospital (North Mid) is searching for an experienced and passionate Band 6 Children's Community Nurse to join their highly skilled and enthusiastic theatres team. North Middlesex provides both hospital and community care, helping to keep people in the best possible health at every stage in their lives. The North Middlesex University Hospital NHS Trust is a medium-sized acute and community trust with over 525 beds and over 600 community staff, serving more than 600,000 people living across Enfield and Haringey and the surrounding areas, including Barnet and Waltham Forest.
The candidate is required to have community experience, a driving license, and a car. Shifts are 9am-5pm, Monday to Friday. An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Band 6 Nurse to become a member of the Community Children's Nursing Team (CCNT), providing occasional crossover for the Hospital at Home team. The post holder will work under the direction of the Children's Community Team leader with responsibility for the assessment of care needs for all patients, ensuring appropriately planned care is both implemented and evaluated.
The Nurse is expected to work with minimal supervision and will be designated to take charge and work as a lone worker within the community on a regular basis. The Nurse will provide care at home without supervision to facilitate the prevention of admission or reduction in hospitalisation. The Nurse will act as an effective clinical leader and will ensure the clinical and professional development of all staff for whom they are responsible. Circumstances may arise for the post holder to assist in providing clinical cover in all areas of the paediatric unit, supporting the Hospital at Home team when required. Experienced band 5 nurses will be considered for the post.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:- To assess individual care needs, develop, implement, and evaluate care given to patients in conjunction with the multidisciplinary team.
- To provide evidence-based nursing care to children and young people within the community setting.
- To perform nursing procedures to a high standard in accordance with local clinical Practice Guidelines and policies.
- To be competent in the recognition and management of life-threatening emergencies and be able to carry these out in the community setting.
- To be responsible for the identification of child protection concerns to the team leader/child protection lead and actioning concerns through child protection procedures.
- To ensure the team adheres to the child protection policies and guidelines.
- To maintain accurate and comprehensive nursing records, using appropriate documentation and Nursing Information System, and ensure their confidentiality and safe keeping in accordance with the NMC and trust guidelines.
- To ensure safe custody and administration of drugs according to local policy and procedures including intravenous and central venous medication.
- To work with Lead and Senior Nurses, infection Control to ensure optimal care.
- To organise workload in line with clinical priorities.
- To take part in monthly caseload reviews.
- RSCN or RN (Child)
- NMC registration
- Evidence of Work based learning and ability to meet competencies
- Significant post registration experience within an acute or community nursing setting
- Experience of facilitating clinical decision making and the application of professional judgement in clinical situations
- Knowledge of student practice supervision and assessor responsibilities
- Excellent clinical nursing skills pertinent to the role
- Ability to effectively prioritise and organise own workload
- IT Skills experience of the application of professional judgement in a range of clinical and non-clinical situations.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, is engaged and able to negotiate and mediate
- Communicates with clarity and direction, both written and verbally
- Analyses and identifies trends in clinical information, identifies issues and proposes solutions to problems
- Knowledge of current issues relating to patient safety
- Knowledge of current legislation affecting health
- Good knowledge of anatomy and physiology and the management of an acutely unwell child
- Experience of working within Community/ED/PAU/ward setting
- Full driver's license and access to own car that is ULEZ compliant
- CVAD trained
