Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust are recruiting for a passionate Band 5 Registered Mental Health Nurse to join their highly skilled team. Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust is the largest non-teaching hospital trust in England, serving around 675,000 residents in Portsmouth and South East Hampshire.
The role of the RMN is to work in partnership with the multidisciplinary team to provide enhanced support to patients with complex mental health needs in the acute care environment. The RMN should provide therapeutic intervention and engagement, whilst also assisting patients to undertake their activities of daily living.
Responsibilities- Carry out nursing care to the highest possible standard according to Trust Policies and Practice and Clinical Guidelines.
- Complete and update care plans, risk assessments and risk management plans for the patients' direct care and support on the ward.
- Assist patients in all areas of their daily personal care and hygiene needs according to their care plans.
- Contribute to a full range of routine care tasks such as supporting self-care and completing routine observations.
- Assist in the delivery of therapeutic intervention for our patients under the guidance of the medical and mental health liaison teams (MHLT).
- Engage in conversations to help maintain patients' sense of identity, upholding dignity at all times.
- Support patients to engage in activities of daily life that promotes a sense of purpose, belonging, and achievement.
- Support patients detained under the Mental Health Act to understand their rights.
- Liaise with patients' family and friends to provide updates on progress and discharge plans.
- Utilise and promote de-escalation skills to prevent incidents of self-harm or harm to others.
- Risk assess activities outside of the ward, considering any legal frameworks that may be in place.
- Escalate the need for PRN medication in a timely manner to the medical/ward team.
Shift patterns: 07:30 Early shift, 12:30 Late shift, 19:30 Night shift.
Benefits: Weekly salary. Staffing Bank workers can contribute to their NHS pension. Priority of shifts over all agency workers.
