Moorfields Eye Hospital are recruiting an experienced Band 3 or 4 Pharmacy Assistant to join their highly skilled and qualified team. Moorfields is the leading provider of eye health services in the UK and a world-class centre of excellence for ophthalmic research and education. Their clinical staff take great pride in providing high-quality care to their patients across their extensive specialist clinics, including their A&E department; Paediatric clinic; Retinal Therapy Unit; Cataract, Glaucoma, Genetics, Oracular Oncology departments; and many more.
The Post involves assisting in the provision of a safe and efficient patient-focused clinical pharmacy service in the Pharmacy dispensaries. The post holder will be working in a patient-facing area as part of the dispensary clinical pharmacy team, in conjunction with the Lead Pharmacy Technician for Clinical Services and the Senior Pharmacy Technicians to manage and coordinate workflow in the dispensaries, monitor the quality of service provided and actively promote the implementation of important Trust initiatives for out-patients services.
Main Responsibilities:
- Provide support to the Pharmacy Technicians and Pharmacists in the Pharmacy dispensaries in accordance with relevant Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Receive prescriptions from patients for dispensing.
- After training and assessment, undertake the assembly of medicines for individual out/inpatients, which includes generating a label, choosing the correct medicine from stock, counting and packing the medicine, preparing prescriptions for checking by a Pharmacist or Accredited Checking Pharmacy Technician, and giving out specific dispensed and checked medications with appropriate instructions to patients.
- Support stock control within the dispensaries including ordering and receiving stock from Pharmacy stores, distribution and stock rotation.
- Process prescriptions and over-the-counter payments where applicable.
- Assist in ward stock top-ups after appropriate training, which involves visiting wards/departments, creating orders for stock medicines, filling the order, entering issues on the computer, and ensuring timely delivery of stock.
- Be involved in stock control for ancillary stock (e.g. bottles, bags and labels) in the Pharmacy dispensaries.
- Ensure that all relevant Patient Information Leaflets (PILs) are photocopied and available.
- Maintain clean and tidy dispensing facilities and safe systems of work including expiry-date checking and correct disposal of medications.
- Undertake mandatory training and be responsible for the filing of prescriptions on a daily basis.
- Answer the telephone and deal with queries where necessary, including liaising with other Pharmacy staff.
- Handle medicines returned from the wards/departments and patients, make appropriate computer records and dispose of unwanted/expired stock following Trust policies.
- Assist the Lead and Senior Pharmacy Technicians in receipt of medicinal stock from pharmaceutical wholesalers when necessary.
- Assist in the prompt matching process of all delivery notes, orders and invoices.
- Book and arrange deliveries of medicinal stock to Moorfields Network sites.
- Arrange deliveries of medicines supplied on prescription to patients' homes either by post or same-day courier.
Requirements:
- Educated to GCSE standard or equivalent including Maths and English.
- BTEC or NVQ level 2 in pharmaceutical services or equivalent.
- Recent experience of working in a Pharmacy.
- Experience of working in a Pharmacy dispensary.
- Ability to read, write and use the English language.
- Excellent communication skills and customer service skills.
- Ability to work on own initiative and be accountable for own actions.
- Excellent organisational skills and problem-solving skills.
- Basic IT skills.
- Manual lifting & handling.
- Motivated team player, assertive, friendly, polite and approachable.
- Proactive approach and willing to learn.
- Flexible to working evening and weekend shifts if required.
