The Medical Laboratory Assistant will work in a small team performing the pre-analytical preparation of both routine and specialised investigations, a key function of the laboratory. Work includes sample management - booking into LIMS, sample preparation and storage for CSF, blood, plasma and other biological materials in accordance with local standard operating procedures. Direct/indirect supervision from the Specimen reception Supervisor and laboratory senior staff (Band 7+). The MLA will collect/refer samples and deliveries from ION and NHNN departments as required.

Requirements:

  • Science subject at GCSE level or equivalent.
  • NVQ level 3 or equivalent e.g. A level.
  • Use of computers including MS Office.
  • Experience of working as part of a team.
  • Awareness of Health and Safety Issues.
  • Ability to work accurately with attention to detail and to know scope of role e.g. do not give out unauthorised results.
  • Ability to learn new techniques, (e.g. making up simple solutions).
  • Ability to work efficiently with good timekeeping and carry out routine tasks without being constantly reminded.
  • Demonstrate enthusiasm and motivation.
  • Demonstrate ability to meet Trust Values of safety, kindness, teamwork and improving.
