University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (UCLH) are searching for an experienced Band 6 Occupational Therapist for Stroke and Neuro Services to join their highly skilled team. UCLH is one of the most complex NHS trusts in the UK, serving a large and diverse population. We provide academically led acute and specialist services, to people from the local area, from throughout the United Kingdom and overseas.

Job Purpose: To provide a high standard of Occupational Therapy to patients with highly complex and rare neuro‑disability as an autonomous practitioner. Staff are guided and supported through 5 different service areas by Band 7 Occupational Therapists and Clinical Specialist Occupational Therapists.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • To assist in the provision of high quality Occupational Therapy within the Trust, by close collaboration with all members of the multidisciplinary team in the service area and Directorate.
  • To be professionally and legally accountable for all aspects of own work, including management of patients, use of equipment and all written documentation.
  • To design and provide specialist neuro‑occupational therapy treatment programmes for patients, carers and their families.
  • Constantly evaluate and monitor patient needs, using appropriate methods of standardised and non‑standardised outcome.
  • To identify unmet needs of patients, discuss these areas with appropriate agencies and refer on in a timely fashion.
  • To provide specialist occupational therapy skills, e.g. wheelchair and seating assessment, general splinting and impact of neuro‑impairment on function.
  • Organise, plan and carry out home assessments as required according to the departmental policy involving patients, families, carers, internal and external agencies, MDT members.
  • To maintain a high standard of patient records and data for all patients, including uni‑disciplinary and interdisciplinary reports, documenting all relevant information according to standards of practice.

Requirements:

  • State registered Occupational Therapist (HPC)
  • Degree in OT (or equivalent)
  • Broad knowledge of current best practice in neuro‑occupational therapy.
  • Demonstrate an awareness and understanding of OT models of practice.
  • Knowledge of relevant issues in relation to NHS, e.g. New NHS: modern, dependable.
  • Disability legislation.
  • Health and safety at work act.
  • National Service Frameworks / NICE Guidelines.
  • The ability to understand and adhere to Equal Opportunities policy and risk management policy.
  • Substantive post‑graduation clinical OT experience required within a physical setting.
  • Substantive specific neurological post‑graduation OT experience.
  • Use of problem‑oriented medical records / SOAP notes.
