THE POST:

The post holder will:

  • Provide a Trust wide strategic safeguarding lead on behalf of the Executive Chief Nurse to ensure the Trust meets its obligations under the Children\’s Act 2004, Care Act 2014 and other relevant legislation and statutory guidance in order to ensure Moorfields provides safe, effective and well led services which safeguard the vulnerable.
  • To be responsible for the delivery of the safeguarding adults’ agenda throughout the Trust in accordance with local and national guidance and legislation including the Care Act (2014) the Pan London Safeguarding Adults Policy and the respective procedure’s where the Trust has network sites, the post holder will ensue that comprehensive and robust arrangements including governance, are in place for safeguarding adults in all services.
  • To lead and coordinate the safeguarding adult agenda promoting excellent professional practice within the Trust, supporting local safeguarding systems and processes and providing advice and expertise for staff.
  • Be responsible for the oversight and delivery of sound safeguarding practice, process and systems for children, young people and adults with responsibility for ensuring the Safeguarding Team deliver all the key objectives and requirements for the safeguarding of all patients across the Trust, whilst demonstrating effective inter‑agency partnership working.
  • Lead the Safeguarding team of practitioners, to bring together both adults and children’s safeguarding agendas. To include line management, shared work plans and assurance processes as well as the development of one common oversight committee.
  • Provide expert, evidence‑based leadership and direction for all aspects of the safeguarding agendas across the Trust, promoting a personalised “Think Family” approach to the protection and safeguarding of vulnerable people across the life span including Transitional Safeguarding.
  • Lead the development and have oversight of areas of work delivered by the Safeguarding Team including training, supervision, audit, PREVENT, MCA, health input into multi‑agency safeguarding hubs, domestic abuse, modern slavery, safeguarding adult reviews, children safeguarding practice reviews, domestic homicide reviews, learning disability and dementia.
  • Exercise a high degree of autonomy in making critical decisions, interpreting complex and sensitive information from other agencies such as Social Care/Police, assessing the risk, options available and appropriate actions.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Hold current registration for adult care with relevant Professional Body i.e. NMC.
  • Educated to Master’s degree level (or equivalent experience)
  • Evidence of continuing professional development.
  • Level 4 safeguarding children and adult competencies.
  • Postgraduate qualification in safeguarding.
  • Recognised teaching qualification e.g. ENB 998, Safeguarding Train the Trainers Course, PGCAE.
  • Safeguarding supervision qualification.
  • Extensive experience of leading safeguarding at a senior level; e.g., Named Professional.
  • Experience of working and leading across the children young people agenda.
  • Dealing with complex and challenging safeguarding issues and advising others of their responsibilities.
  • Designing and implementing change.
  • Oversight of effected education and training programmes and modules.
  • Report writing for Board and external agency requirements.
  • Completion of Individual Management Reviews, Domestic Homicide Reviews and Safeguarding Reviews.
  • Working in a community healthcare setting.
  • Coaching, mentoring and providing safeguarding and clinical supervision and appraisal to named professionals.
  • Experience of working with electronic safeguarding systems.
  • Highly specialist experience and knowledge of expert practice, research and education of Adult and Child safeguarding practice, duties and responsibilities including legal frameworks.
  • Advanced understanding and expert knowledge of guidance and procedures including information sharing, confidentiality and consent.
  • Understanding of Information and Clinical Governance / risk management.
  • Evidence of devising, delivering and evaluating training to clinical and non‑clinical staff.
  • Can demonstrate strategic thinking and is able to see the \”bigger picture\”
  • Proven leadership and communication skills both oral and written including ability to communicate with a wide range of organisations and individuals.
  • Experience of undertaking and contributing to organisational and service audits and applying research to practice.
  • Objective/critical thinker with advanced analytical skills.
  • Able to manage complex/emotive situations effectively including negotiating skills and advanced problem‑solving skills.
  • Ability to work flexibly.
  • Advanced IT Skills.
