Moorfields Eye Hospital are recruiting an experienced Band 7 Finance Manager to join their highly skilled and qualified team.
Moorfields is the leading provider of eye health services in the UK and a world-class centre of excellence for ophthalmic research and education. Their clinical staff take great pride in providing high-quality care to their patients across their extensive specialist clinics, including their A&E department; Paediatric clinic; Retinal Therapy Unit; Cataract, Glaucoma, Genetics, Oracular Oncology departments; and many more. It provides state-of-the-art operating facilities run by some of the UK’s leading ophthalmology surgeons, providing operative services including laser treatment, vision correction, cosmetic treatment, and various other corrective treatment for a range of eye conditions.
The Post:
The Electronic Patient Records (EPR) project represents a major IT project in Moorfield’s excellence delivery programme. EPR will collate and consolidate the management of clinical records to support clinicians and colleagues across the trust in making more effective decisions, improving clinical outcomes and patient experience.

To help us to achieve this vision, we are looking for passionate individuals to join our finance team as part of the EPR project.
As the project moves into its next phase we are seeking to appoint a dedicated finance resource to work as an integrated part of the EPR project team and provide finance support to the project, the IT division and digital projects ensuring that the projects are operating within the agreed financial limits and procedures required by the Trust.
Working as an integral part of the EPR Programme, IT Division and finance department, the Finance Manager (IT, EPR & Digital Projects) will be responsible for the production of accurate and timely financial reporting and forecasting of project expenditure, including capital and revenue classifications in accordance with IAS38 Intangible assets definitions.
The post holder will be accountable to the Trust Chief Financial Officer for the adherence to statutory accounting requirements, DHSC and NHS Improvement accounting standards and Trust policies for internal control, corporate governance and reporting requirements.
The role may also involve support to other strategic projects and commercial developments within the Trust, during any downtime of activities for EPR.
Requirements:
We would like someone who is on the final stages of a CCAB qualification, or qualified with financial management experience of at least 3 years at this level. Working on project finance would be a benefit.
- First degree or equivalent professional experience.
- The post holder must be a minimum of a passed finalist or qualified member of a CCAB body (e.g. CIMA) and be actively undertaking Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
- Experience of supporting budget holders at a senior level.
- Experience of Management Accounting.
- Experience of producing and presenting financial results.
- Experience of financial forecasting and budget setting.
- Thorough experience of financial management gained within a complex environment, budgetary control, finance modelling, forecasting and management information processes.
- Advanced skills in MS Excel.
- Able to explain highly complex financial issues clearly and concisely to non-finance managers.
- Build excellent working relationships with all Finance Business Partners, Departmental Managers and Corporate Directors.
- Proactive approach to problem solving, anticipating issues before they arise, and developing solutions.
- In depth understanding of Financial Systems and how best to develop them, in conjunction with desktop applications, to provide a high-quality reporting and analysis function.
- Highly developed technical analysis skills, with an ability to produce complex financial models
- Highly numerate and analytical.
- Excellent verbal reasoning.
- Advanced report writing skills.
- Ability to influence senior managers and clinicians.
- Ability to lead and motivate staff.
