St Bartholomew's Hospital (Barts) are searching for an experienced and passionate Medical/Surgical Dietitian to join their highly skilled team. Our group of hospitals provide a huge range of clinical services to people in east London and beyond. We operate from four major hospital sites (The Royal London, St Bartholomew’s, Whipps Cross and Newham) and a number of community locations, including Mile End hospital. Around 2.5 million people living in east London look to our services to provide them with the healthcare they need.
Job Purpose
- To be the lead dietitian for dietetic interventions within the specialties of specialist medicine and surgery.
- Responsible for providing expert dietetic assessment, treatment and advice to a specialist caseload of medical and surgical patients.
- To work alongside the wider multidisciplinary team (MDT) to provide an effective service including attending and contributing to ward rounds, board rounds and MDT meetings.
- Advocate for nutrition for patients with complex needs, including initiating and engaging in best interests discussions for patients who lack capacity.
- To use advanced clinical reasoning skills to provide specialist support and advice to dietetic and other clinical staff within Barts Health.
- To support band 6 dietitian in the provision of nutritional support to complex patients and developing their skills.
- To be responsible for planning and delivering specialist training to medical staff, nurses and students and other health care professionals in the surgical field.
- Partake in the development of trust wide policies, protocol and guidelines.
- To ensure that research and audit is undertaken on a regular basis to ensure that practice is evidence based.
Requirements
- BSc Nutrition & Dietetics or relevant postgraduate qualification.
- Qualification in area of specialisation or evidence of experience in speciality area.
- HCPC registered.
- Extensive experience in the area of specialist medicine, complex nutrition support, surgery and parenteral nutrition.
- Experience in taking part in project work that supports improvement in service or supports a change in practice.
- Experience in developing a service and establishing/maintaining a dietetic presence within an MDT.
