The Technology Directorate provides information and system technology services to all business areas in the Bank as part of Central Services. Our key objective is to support the policy and operational divisions to meet the Bank\’s stated objectives.
Job Description
This is a fixed term 12-month contract role (ending October 2026). We’re looking for a knowledgeable M365 specialist to help support the Bank’s new approach to the document and records management system.
The Bank is migrating the document management solution from a legacy toolset to M365, primarily using SharePoint for document management. The Bank will also be using Microsoft Purview extended with a custom Azure Cloud solution to meet the Bank’s records management requirements. We are currently in a pilot phase, and the successful candidates will support the organisation during and after the remainder of the deployment. This role will include working as part of an on-call support rotation covering evenings and weekends.
This is an ideal opportunity if you are passionate about empowering people to be more productive and delivering a modern workplace experience at pace. This will be truly revolutionary for the Bank, and an opportunity to quickly leave a lasting legacy on a critical UK institution.
This role is open to flexible working patterns, which include:
- Job share
- Flexible start and end time to each day
- Compressed hours
A 40% in-office attendance requirement can be spread across the month to accommodate diverse working patterns, such as the flexibility to purchase a weekly train ticket for certain weeks.
A day in the role
A typical day starts with a team stand-up meeting to discuss sprint tasks. You’ll advise 1st and 2nd line support on SharePoint Online and Microsoft Teams tickets. You’ll attend the weekly operations meeting to review support cases. In the afternoon you might review guidance for a new feature, handle a user support call, and document the fix for knowledge sharing. You may also investigate issues sharing documents over Teams and, if needed, raise a support case with Microsoft.
Your responsibilities may adapt depending on team needs and could include:
- Engaging with external vendors for support and ensuring value from services
- Providing training to end-users and SharePoint champions
- Participating in continuous improvement initiatives for SharePoint environments
- Ensuring visibility of solutions using reporting and monitoring tools
- BAU operational support for SharePoint, Teams, and other M365 products
Role Requirements
We are interested in candidates with demonstrable experience in the following:
- M365 suite including SharePoint Online, OneDrive for Business, and Teams (architecture, governance, security, content management, channels, search)
- PowerShell scripting for automation and administration
- Hybrid Active Directory user identity management
- Experience in third-line support with problem-solving within SLAs
- Documentation of solutions and creation of knowledge base articles
- Raising and managing support cases with external vendors for complex issues
We’re looking for someone who:
- Embodies inclusion and collaborates well with stakeholders and technical teams
- Has strong communication and documentation skills
- Delivers support within SLAs and to a high standard
- Proactively identifies knowledge gaps and keeps up to date
- Is comfortable with an on-call support rota
It would be beneficial, but not required, to have Microsoft accreditation and/or experience with:
- Document and Records Management
- Azure app management and M365 Groups
- Power Automate Flows and Power Apps
- Backups/restoration for Teams/SharePoint Online
- Large-scale migrations to SharePoint Online
- SharePoint migration tools (e.g., ShareGate)
- Agile methodologies (Scrum/Kanban) and ITIL practices
- Data Rights Management and Windows Server administration
- Group Policy Objects in a hybrid AD environment
Don’t hesitate to apply if you don’t meet all the essential criteria. The Bank has a robust ITIL Change Management process and requires occasionally working evenings/weekends on live systems. Payment for this is in the base salary—no additional remuneration is available for this.
