Job Description

Location: Leeds

Overview of Data and Statistics Division

The Data and Statistics Division (DSD) is part of the Data and Analytics Transformation Directorate (DATD). It is a division with responsibilities spanning the production and management of some of the Bank\’s core datasets, to aspects of data management and data culture that reach into the working lives of almost all Bank staff. This is a time of significant change: the way we collect and manage data, and compile statistics, is evolving as we seek to make use of new technology and techniques. This means drawing on a wide range of skillsets, including: data management; data science; operational work; subject matter expertise in aspects of economics and statistics; and, people and process management.

Money and Credit Group

This is a people management role to commence from January 2026, as senior analyst/team leader of the Industrial Team in MCG. The jobholder will coordinate the Industrial Team across the statistical data production cycle and oversee the development of analytical and process improvement projects outside of the main production rounds. During the production round, the senior analyst will support the team by organizing their workload, ensuring that assigned tasks are completed, and serving as the primary point of contact for issues, prioritisation and escalation. Outside the main production round, the senior analyst will monitor projects\’ progress ensuring they stay on schedule and maintain high quality by providing guidance grounded in subject matter knowledge and technical expertise. Additionally, the role holder will contribute ideas and tactical solutions to improve our processes.

This opportunity provides great scope for developing management and leadership skills through directly managing a range of team members. You will have to apply your problem-solving skills regularly to tackle operational issues as they arise, whilst building strong supportive relationships with reporting bank teams and internal users of our data. A wider interest in economic headline stories is useful, as you will try to link patterns you see in our data to these stories. You will work with our Markets colleagues to try and identify movements of interest in our data, and seek to identify early trends in the data.

DAT is in the build phase of developing a new data reporting system. While a separate specialist team is working on delivering this product, as a Senior Analyst in MCG you will play a key role in engaging with the team as a prospective end user and providing feedback to ensure the final system is fit for purpose. This role will also enable you to gain exposure to a wide variety of data and statistical techniques, including seasonal adjustment and virtual calculations. Whilst you do not need to be a subject matter expert on these topics, you will be heavily involved in governance and providing direction/constructive challenge to those with deep knowledge, to ensure successful, rigorously tested outcomes.
