The Bank of England is the UK's central bank. Its mission is to deliver monetary and financial stability for the British people. The Property department through its Infrastructure Engineering team maintains, enhances and supports the occupied building environment and provides engineering services for Bank staff. The department also supports capital investment, business continuity, health & safety, internal/external events, facilities services and procurements to ensure value for money.

The scope of services for the engineering critical shift engineer includes, but is not exhaustive:

  • Issue and closure of work permits and authorisations for reactive works.
  • Delivery of statutory maintenance requirements.
  • Support the Engineering Shift Leads to conduct monthly system/integration tests.
  • Maintain critical system resilience and asset availability 24/7/365.
  • Undertake planned critical and preventative maintenance tasks within Planon Intelligent Work Management System (IWMS).
  • Support and update planned and reactive maintenance tasks in IWMS.
  • Daily and periodic building system and equipment checks to keep systems operational 24/7/365.
  • Manage faults with priority response and safe working environments to minimise downtime.
  • Undertake routine inspections across HVAC, electrical, public health, fire and other building systems.
  • Provide proactive maintenance ideas to management; coordinate statutory testing of life safety systems; support OEM contractors.
  • Act as an Authorised Person (HV/LV) - Electrical and/or Mechanical to support 24/7 operations within the bank's SSoW.
  • Complete annual training and performance objectives; promote Health & Safety best practices.
  • Ensure work is completed in line with methods, risk assessments, SLAs and customer service standards.
  • Participate in On-Call rota and incident management across three sites; contribute to recovery exercises.
  • Develop, absorb and follow prescribed SOPs and EOPs; read and understand complex drawings; understand inter-dependencies across building services.

Minimum Criteria

  • Minimum City & Guilds Level 4 (or transferable) in a relevant engineering subject.
  • IOSH Managing Safely.
  • Security Vetting to SC Clearance (provided by Bank).
  • Experience with IWMS planned and reactive maintenance tools using handheld HMI.
  • Experience operating and maintaining HVAC, BMS, Electrical, Public Health and Life Safety Systems.

Essential Criteria

  • Authorised Person experience at HV and LV operation.
  • Experience with Safe Systems of Work (SSoW).
  • Knowledge of statutory and compliance obligations for engineering systems.
  • Ability to follow SOPs and EOPs; read complex drawings; understand inter-dependencies of building services.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication; strong team collaboration; time management; ability to work under pressure.
  • Customer service oriented with flexible, collaborative approach.
  • Experience in 24/7 shift environments operating critical systems.

Desirable Criteria

  • Previous 24/7 shift experience covering critical systems and operations.

Salary and Benefits Information

Salary: £43,830 - £48,700 (+ £11,000 shift allowance). We offer a comprehensive benefits package, including pension, discretionary performance award, pension contribution options, 26 days of annual leave with buy options, private medical insurance and income protection.

National Security Vetting: Employment is subject to vetting clearance and Bank security checks. Further information will be provided to the successful applicant.
