A Day in the RoleA typical shift begins with a handover from the previous team, where you review incidents and important updates, potentially coordinating with other support teams to work on equipment within the Data Centre. Following the handover, you move on to dayâtoâday operational duties such as system monitoring, starting or closing applications, and running batch suites.
During an overnight shift you may receive alerts about incidents affecting core systems. In such cases you may need to contact the onâcall support team or raise the incident to your shift leader if it falls into the Major Incident Space. Next you will deal with an outâofâhours Service Desk call, supporting a lockedâout device.
After resolving incidents you may take a break and have lunch with colleagues. Later, you will continue system monitoring or liaise with our smartâhands service that supports two of our data centres. You may also undertake training or update documentation to fineâtune steps for handling specific alerts, ready for handover to the next shift.
