Department Description
The Parlours comprise the offices of the Bank’s senior officials, including the Governor and Deputy Governors. The Parlours team’s main role is to provide the business with a high level of customer service, including being on hand to assist any of the Governor/Deputy Governors with their day-to-day needs from a steward perspective.
Job Description
This is a very prestigious role working in the parlours providing a wide range of services to the Governor and Deputy Governors. These include laying up for breakfasts/lunches/dinners and serving at functions which include high profile events, escorting visitors, acting as Governor’s Steward. You will be working as a team and on your own, so you need to be confident in your approach and have strong communication skills.
There is a weekly rota which you will work to, ranging from 7.00am to 6.00pm and possibly beyond (this could be up to mid-night if working an evening function). This is why the importance of being flexible is imperative. This role is Monday to Friday.
Role Requirements
Key Responsibilities will include:
- Provide day-to-day stewarding and manual services to support the Governor and Deputy Governors.
- Work a rota covering early starts (from 7.00am to 6.00pm) and, where required, late finishes to support evening functions.
- Serve breakfasts, lunches, dinners and refreshments to senior stakeholders and guests, maintaining high standards of service.
- Escort VIP visitors within the Bank and ensure an appropriate, professional experience at all times.
- Oversee Parlours laundry requirements, including liaison with suppliers and internal stakeholders as needed.
- Maintain the upkeep of Parlours silver in line with agreed schedules and required standards.
- Carry out twice-weekly checks of clocks in the Parlours and report any issues promptly.
- Comply with food safety and hygiene requirements, including safe handling and service of food and beverages.
- Complete administrative tasks to support operations, including maintaining the functions booking database and producing daily reports when required.
Minimum Criteria
- Demonstrable hospitality or customer service experience, ideally within a high-profile, high-service environment.
- Availability to work the weekly rota (Monday to Friday), including early starts (from 7.00am) and occasional late finishes to support evening functions (potentially up to midnight).
Essential Skills
- Proven ability to use initiative and respond promptly to changing requirements (e.g., communicating delays and re-sequencing service when meetings overrun).
- Strong verbal communication skills and confidence engaging with senior leaders and VIP visitors, demonstrating professionalism, discretion and attention to detail.
Desirable Criteria
- Basic IT skills with the ability to update a booking database and produce daily routine reports
- Currently a non-contributory, career average pension giving you a guaranteed retirement benefit of 1/80th of your annual salary for every year worked.
