A day in the role
A typical day starts with a stand-up alongside a cross-functional team of engineers and delivery stakeholders to review progress, surface blockers, and align priorities around deployments, platform stability, and upcoming releases. You’ll focus on hands-on technical work for assigned projects (e.g., refining CI/CD pipelines in GitHub, implementing infrastructure changes using Terraform, troubleshooting Azure services) across multiple environments (dev, uat, production) ensuring configurations are secure and aligned with best practices. As lead engineer, you’ll mentor other engineers, review pull requests, guide reusable patterns, and ensure engineering standards are applied. You may also document standards and progress tickets, and prepare for design reviews or security discussions.
In the afternoon, technical workshops or refinement calls focus on creating tickets mapping to project requirements, solution design, and security considerations. You’ll work with developers, architects, and delivery leads to agree on the best technical approach. Before logging off, you’ll tidy up the backlog and note upcoming meetings.
