The Legal and Company Secretariat Department is responsible for ensuring that all legal and regulatory risks in the UK operations of Bank of China are identified, managed, and mitigated, while good and efficient corporate governance is maintained and enhanced. As a Vice President Legal – Regulatory & Litigation, you will be responsible for handling litigation matters, internal investigations, and providing guidance on a wide range of legal issues relating to corporate governance matters for both the Subsidiary and the Branch. You will be managing the Subsidiary’s and Branch’s litigation and proactively support with legal risk management. You will also play a key role in high-profile regulatory and corporate governance-related projects. This is a full-time permanent position.

Key Responsibilities

  • Handle active litigation matters and internal investigations.
  • Report to the Head of Department on all litigation and internal investigation matters.
  • Support with legal risk management relevant to the department and the Bank’s business.
  • Manage potential and actual litigation and regulatory risk by handling active cases effectively and advising on potential new legal risks and how that may crystallise.
  • Advise on a range of potentially contentious matters in a number of jurisdictions.
  • Liaise with external counsel, managing deadlines, budget, and responsibility for regular reporting to the Board and committees on status.
  • Collaborate with other in-house counsel and external counsel.
  • Represent the Legal Team where required.

Requirements

  • Solicitor qualified in England and Wales, holding a current practising certificate.
  • Solid experience in commercial litigation and conducting internal investigations.
  • Litigation lawyer with solid technical skills, demonstrable commercial acumen, and a strategic approach.
  • Background and/or good knowledge in Financial Services and experience of corporate governance matters and the UK regulatory framework including SMCR.
  • Previous in-house experience in a Legal department or litigation/regulatory experience in a leading law firm.
  • Experience of working with compliance.
  • Solid stakeholder management and engagement skills.
  • Results-oriented.
  • Logical, structured, and detail-focused with the ability to manage a broad portfolio of work priorities and responsibilities in a timely and proactive fashion.
  • Excellent project management and organisational skills.
  • Team player who is willing to assist others when necessary and appropriate.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain clearly and logically and convey complex points that are easily understood.
