Overview
The College of Medicine and Health is seeking a full-time, permanent Senior Clerical Officer (Academic Support Research, Ethics) to join the College Administrative Team.
Duties include providing efficient administrative support to the College and School Research teams with the organisation and day-to-day operation of administrative processes for Research and Impact. The postholder will also assume the role of Ethics Administrator for the College. The role is based at Bangor University and offered on a full-time basis, with consideration for part-time or job share arrangements.

Purpose of the Job
- Provide administrative support to activities associated with the research and impact function within the College of Medicine and Health.
- Work closely with the College Deans of Research, College Director of Research Postgraduate Studies, School Directors of Research and Impact, Ethics Chairs, and other key role holders within the College and Schools.
- Collaborate with colleagues within Professional Services (e.g., Integrated Research & Impact Support Team) to support research and impact activities.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide effective administrative support to College Deans of Research, School Directors of Research and Impact and other key role holders.
- Assist with the organisation and day-to-day operation of administrative research processes and procedures for the College and Schools.
- Communicate effectively with staff, students, and external bodies; maintain professional working relationships.
- Provide administrative support for College-level and School-level meetings: organise meetings, draft agendas, prepare papers, take minutes, and circulate materials.
- Assist in creating an annual academic calendar for the College.
- Support the Ethics Committees by administering the ethics application process, ensuring timely responses and providing overall administrative support.
- Provide administrative support for the internal Annual Review process.
- Provide administrative support to the Patient Participation Panel.
- Assist with organising events, conferences and workshops: venue bookings, refreshments, communications, and related tasks.
- Coordinate with guest lecturers and visiting researchers for the College and Schools.
- Liaise with Professional Services to ensure awareness of correct procedures and processes; advise staff as necessary.
- Develop and maintain systems; ensure files and data are available when required.
- Assist in gathering information for returns and reports.
- Support governance through regulatory and compliance activities; maintain confidentiality and comply with GDPR requirements.
- General office management and handling enquiries.
- Collaborate across functional teams to maintain core support services, especially during holidays, absences, and peak periods.

Qualifications/Training
Essential: Educated to AS/A level or NVQ level 3 (or equivalent) in a relevant subject area or possess equivalent administrative experience. Desirable: NVQ level 4 in a relevant subject area.
Experience/Knowledge
Essential: Experience in a busy office/administrative environment; implementing and maintaining administrative systems and procedures; proficient in Microsoft Office; extensive experience of organising meetings and minute taking; experience of event organisation.
Desirable: Experience in an academic environment; ability to make decisions with appropriate consultation; understanding of higher education academic and research environments; understanding of postgraduate research student support.
Skills/Abilities
Essential: Good communication and interpersonal skills; ability to build relationships across the University and external bodies; excellent organisational skills; ability to prioritise and meet deadlines; accurate data entry; proactive improvement mindset; ability to work independently; confidentiality and GDPR awareness.
