We are looking to recruit a permanent, part‑time (32 hours per week) Nursery Nurse to join the team at Tir Na Nog.
Purpose of the Job
The Nursery Nurse will be working as part of a key worker team for the daily needs of children between the ages of birth to five years and will provide support to other personnel within the setting.
Responsibilities
- Contribute to a high standard of physical, emotional, social, and intellectual care for children placed in the day care centre.
- Support other personnel within the day‑care centre.
- Implement the daily routine appropriate to the assigned room.
- Operate a programme of activities suitable to the age range of children in your area in conjunction with other staff.
- Support all staff and engage in good teamwork.
- Work with parents/carers of special‑needs children to provide full integration in the setting.
- Maintain proper records of achievement for key children for parents/carers.
- Liaise and support parents/carers and other family members.
- Participate in meetings, training, fundraising activities, etc.
- Be flexible within the working practices of the setting.
- Assist where needed, including undertaking certain domestic tasks.
- Work alongside the manager and staff team to ensure that the philosophy behind the project is fulfilled.
- Record accidents in the accident book and ensure that the manager initials the report before the parent receives it.
- Assess how best to utilise your help within the setting.
- Ensure children are collected by someone known to the setting.
- Respect confidentiality of information received.
- Develop your role within the team, especially with regard to the key worker position.
- Prepare and complete activities to suit the child’s stage of development.
- Ensure mealtimes are a time of pleasant social sharing.
- Wash and change children as required.
- Provide comfort and warmth to ill children.
- Maintain a high‑quality environment that meets the needs of children from differing cultures, religious backgrounds, and varying stages of development.
- Uphold the setting’s standards at all times.
- Actively promote and support safeguarding of children and young people in the workplace.
Qualifications and Training
- Level 2 in childcare qualification and willingness to work towards level 3.
- Safeguarding certificate.
- First aid certificate.
- Food hygiene certificate.
Experience and Knowledge
- Previous experience caring for or working with children aged birth to five years in a voluntary or paid capacity.
- Knowledge of national standards for the regulation of childcare provision.
- Awareness of the importance of health and safety and food hygiene in the workplace.
- Understanding of the foundation phase curriculum.
