As the Deputy Fire Chief, you “Take Care of Banff” by ensuring response, on-site command and training achieve continued outstanding fire prevention, mitigation and response. These accountabilities are combined with support of fire prevention and mitigation through Firefighter training, public education, commercial inspections and other priorities to reduce community risk from all hazards.
The Town of Banff’s fire department has a reputation and proven track record of outstanding fire prevention and protection. This role is a cornerstone of the delivery of protective services to the community of Banff and its surrounding areas. You work with the Fire Chief on initiatives and implementation of short-term response tactics and long-range emergency management strategies.
Your role provides primary response to all incidents while working within a composite department complemented by Paid-On-Call firefighters. You work collaboratively with the Fire Prevention Officer, the Training Coordinator and the Fire Smart Coordinator to uphold the Town of Banff’s fire department’s reputation and proven track record.
You are adaptable in learning styles to enhance individual and group effectiveness, comfortable facilitating sessions, and engaging groups and partners in delivering, collecting, and summarizing information on actions and projects.
The minimum qualifications include post-secondary education in business, public administration, or Fire Services, with at least five years’ municipal work experience, preferably in a fire department. You should be proficient in Microsoft Office and other software solutions, with certifications or equivalencies in:
- Alberta Safety Codes Officer certification – Group B Level I
- Current ACP registered EMR certification or equivalent
- ICS 300 or greater
- Home Ignition Zone Specialist
- Beyond Operational Stress, R2MR
- Leadership training
You demonstrate leadership and teamwork, confidence in public speaking, and practical problem-solving skills to improve efficiency.
This full-time position operates on a rotating shift schedule, with a salary range of $104,000 to $131,000. The Town offers group health, retirement benefits, and other perks.
