Reporting to: Fleet Compliance Manager

The Role

We are looking for a Driver Trainer to support driver safety, compliance and professional development across our UK operations. This is a key role within the fleet compliance team, responsible for assessing driver standards, delivering structured training, supporting regulatory compliance and helping to improve driver behaviour across the Group. As a Driver Trainer, you will work closely with drivers, transport operations and fleet compliance colleagues to make sure our drivers are safe, competent, confident and operating in line with statutory, operational and company requirements. You will play an important role in driver assessment, Driver CPC delivery, incident review, driver development planning and continuous improvement across fleet safety and compliance.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Assess new drivers joining the business using the company induction and driver assessment process
  • Carry out driver assessments for new starters, existing drivers and agency drivers
  • Provide clear, constructive feedback to drivers to support skills development and safer driving behaviours
  • Produce driver performance reports, including guidance and recommendations for improvement
  • Maintain continuous driver development plans for drivers across the business
  • Develop, populate and deliver Driver CPC training across UK driver teams
  • Support the development and implementation of driver risk assessments and safe systems of work
  • Act as custodian of the Driver Handbook, keeping it updated in line with legislation, industry standards and Group policy
  • Monitor driver training activity through the Learning Management System
  • Support the Fleet Compliance Manager with accident and incident investigations across UK locations
  • Monitor vehicle-related incidents and provide recommendations based on root cause and driver behaviour
  • Develop and support the delivery of technical alerts, toolbox talks and driver communications
  • Carry out annual driver training assessments and complete associated reporting
  • Deliver SAFED driver training and support driver skills and technique improvements
  • Identify additional training needs and support improvement activity where required, including Operator Licence awareness training
  • Provide monthly driver training and vehicle incident statistics for fleet governance meetings
  • Support fleet-related accreditations, compliance activity and audit preparation
  • Work closely with transport operations to improve fleet safety, compliance and operational efficiency

About You

We are looking for someone with strong driver training, driver assessment or fleet compliance experience. You will be confident working with drivers at all levels and able to communicate clearly, professionally and constructively. You will need to be organised, credible and comfortable delivering both practical driver assessments and classroom-based training.

You will bring:

  • Experience in driver training, driver assessment or fleet compliance
  • Strong knowledge of LGV driver standards, road risk and safe driving behaviours
  • Experience delivering classroom-based training or proven training delivery capability
  • Strong report‑writing skills and the ability to provide clear recommendations
  • Good knowledge of driver safety, compliance and operational transport requirements
  • Confidence supporting accident and incident investigation activity
  • Ability to influence driver behaviour in a positive and professional way
  • Strong IT skills, including Microsoft Office
  • A practical, hands‑on approach and willingness to travel across UK locations where required

Qualifications and Experience

Essential

  • DVSA LGV Instructor qualification or being on the LGV register
  • Training qualification or proven experience as a classroom trainer
  • Strong IT skills, including Microsoft products
  • Previous experience in driver training, driver assessment or fleet compliance

Desirable

  • Road Transport Manager Certificate of Professional Competence
  • DVSA Approved Driving Instructor qualification
  • DVSA Fleet Driver Trainer qualification
  • Train the Trainer qualification, such as PTTLS or equivalent
  • Health and Safety qualification, such as IOSH Working Safely
  • SAFED driver training experience
  • Knowledge of Operator Licence compliance
  • Knowledge or experience of ADR and/or the carriage of dangerous goods
