This newly created role offers an exciting opportunity to shape and evolve Banda’s bespoke furniture offering across both our Gallery collection and our private and commercial client interior projects. As Furniture Designer, you will be responsible for conceiving, developing, and delivering original furniture pieces that reflect Banda’s design ethos, working closely with the Directors and the Interior Design and Procurement teams. You will support the wider studio by providing technical expertise for bespoke FF&E items on interior design projects, ensuring design excellence, buildability, cost control, and production feasibility. You will collaborate with specialist makers, suppliers, and manufacturers, maintaining a deep understanding of materials, finishes, construction techniques, and artisanal processes. You will have a meticulous eye for detail, an innate understanding of form and proportion, and the ability to translate conceptual ideas into technically resolved furniture designs. This role will suit a designer with a strong passion for craft, innovation, and high‑end fabrication, who enjoys pushing boundaries while ensuring robust, technically sound outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop original, bespoke furniture pieces for Banda Gallery collections, from initial concept through to prototype and production.
- Support interior design teams with the development of bespoke FF&E items across multiple projects, ensuring aesthetic alignment and functional requirements.
- Prepare detailed design packages including sketches, digital 3D models, technical drawings, material specifications, prototypes, and production documents.
- Create and manage full technical drawing sets for commissioned furniture and bespoke items, ensuring clarity, accuracy, and adherence to Banda standards.
- Conduct research into materials, finishes, hardware, fabrication techniques, and emerging technologies relevant to luxury furniture design.
- Liaise closely with artisans, fabricators, and specialist manufacturers, reviewing samples, prototypes, shop drawings, and fabrication details.
- Ensure the feasibility, durability, safety, and buildability of all bespoke designs, proactively solving technical challenges.
- Collaborate with the Procurement team on cost estimates for bespoke furniture pieces and FF&E items, ensuring designs remain within project budget parameters.
- Oversee production processes, from commissioning through to workshop visits, quality control, and final installation.
- Maintain detailed records of designs, materials, pricing, and production processes for archive and future reference.
- Present concepts and design solutions confidently to internal teams and external stakeholders.
- Support the evolution of Banda’s design language by contributing new ideas, materials, and artisanal partnerships.
- Collaborate with the designers and Gallery teams on styled shoots, displays, and supporting generation of marketing content where required.
- Uphold Banda’s standards of craft, detail, and innovation across all bespoke furniture and FF&E contributions.
About You
You will have proven experience designing bespoke furniture or highly detailed FF&E pieces for luxury residential, hospitality, or collectible design environments. You thrive in a creative, hands‑on, and detail‑driven studio culture and bring strong awareness of materiality, craftsmanship, proportion, and fabrication.
You Will Be Able to Demonstrate
- 5+ years’ experience in furniture design, industrial design, product design, or a related discipline.
- Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree in Furniture Design, Product Design, Industrial Design, or a related field.
- Excellent 2D and 3D design skills, with strong proficiency in AutoCAD, Sketchup, Rhino, or similar modelling software.
- Proven experience producing complete technical drawing packages for high‑end furniture manufacture.
- Deep knowledge of furniture construction, joinery, materials, finishes, and fabrication processes (woodworking, metalworking, upholstery, stone, glass, etc.).
- A strong network and keen awareness of luxury‑level fabricators, makers, artisans, and specialist workshops.
- Experience working directly with manufacturers, including reviewing shop drawings, prototypes, and samples.
- Exceptional understanding of materials, finishes, and craftsmanship at a luxury level.
- Strong presentation skills, with the ability to clearly communicate design intent visually and verbally.
- High level of organisation, precision, and ability to manage multiple deadlines.
- Cost awareness and ability to design within financial parameters without compromising design integrity.
- An innovative mindset with the ability to ideate, experiment, and contribute to the evolution of Banda’s design identity.
