Santander Consumer Finance is one of the UK’s leading motor finance companies providing finance to a network of car dealerships throughout the United Kingdom. The role purpose is to support the financial operations of this existing leasing portfolio along with our plans to write new contract hire business in the medium term. The role will encompass a mix of day-to-day finance tasks, along with project-based work around the system set up, policies and processes. You will be part of a small team that will deliver monthly financials and will be responsible for all finance areas linked to contract hire. The role holder will assist with cash management, timely processing of sales and purchase invoices, VAT returns and statutory reporting requirements and act as a finance point-of-contact for internal stakeholders and external partners (auditors, suppliers etc). At month end, the role holder will assist with month end closing activities, including journals, prepayments, accruals and balance sheet reconciliations.

Responsibilities will include:
- Promotes and encourages good culture and behaviours personally and across the Team, in line with I AM Risk.
- Identifies, assesses, manages, and reports risks, taking proactive personal responsibility for ‘doing the right thing’ in compliance with regulatory requirements and our frameworks and policies.
- Proactively supports the bank in meeting its business, legal, regulatory and stakeholder obligations in respect of Financial Crime Compliance. Including identifying, deterring, detecting, and disrupting money laundering, sanctions non-compliance, terrorist financing, bribery, corruption, and tax evasion risks that arise by way of its activities.
- Ensures planning assumptions and reporting controls are fully documented and operated correctly. Supports the development of the internal control framework.
- Streamlines reporting, improves analysis, and provides accurate information.
- Support the creation and maintenance of customer agreements, including revenue recognition, asset depreciation and cost allocation.
- Prepare management packs, KPIs and variance analysis for inclusion in the monthly financial results.
- Take on increasing responsibility as the contract hire finance function matures.
- Demonstrates awareness and understanding of SCUK’s business model.
- Ensures robust controls are in place to reconcile data to the statutory financial statements.
- Challenge and analyse business methods and practices.
- Adhering to our commitment to Consumer Duty ensuring we put our customers’ needs first and set higher and clearer standards of consumer protection.
What we’re looking for:
- Knowledge of processes, methods, and tools of financial reporting; ability to create and maintain accurate and thorough financial reports.
- An understanding of IFRS 16, IAS 16, IAS 36 and IFRS 9. This may be theoretical knowledge from studies, but the role holder will need to be familiar with the above standards to ensure that the contract hire business is IFRS compliant.
- Knowledge of how operating leases work within the UK, including rentals, servicing and maintenance along with the use of industry data for RV pricing; ability to provide specific financial knowledge and experience to help organizational development.
- Part Qualified Accountant, actively studying with a view to full qualification.
