Advanced Nurse Practitioner in Banbury

Responsibilities

Provide high‑quality, patient‑centred care as part of a multidisciplinary team, diagnosing and managing acute and chronic conditions, and supporting health promotion. Work as part of the acute care team, delivering informed clinical assessment, supporting clinical decision‑making, and managing a defined range of presentations in general practice and community settings.

With increasing autonomy but within agreed clinical boundaries, apply developed knowledge of minor illness, minor injury, and urgent presentations to support timely patient management. Enhance service capacity through structured assessment, appropriate escalation, and contribution to patient flow, continuity, and a positive care experience.

Main duties of the job

Key Contributions:

1. Clinical Excellence:
   • Deliver safe, effective, evidence‑based care through autonomous clinical decision‑making, including assessment, diagnosis, and treatment for a wide range of conditions.
   • Support patients with acute and chronic conditions, creating personalised care and treatment plans that integrate drug and non‑drug‑based therapies.
2. Health Promotion and Prevention:
   • Actively engage with patients to promote healthy lifestyles, delivering targeted advice on disease prevention and management.
   • Facilitate referrals to community and specialist services to ensure patients receive holistic, ongoing care.
   • Work closely with GPs, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to deliver integrated care within defined healthcare pathways.
   • Provide enhanced clinical advice to internal stakeholders and external partners, such as the ambulance service and district nurses.
3. Training and Development:
   • Participate in the structured development programme, progressing towards qualifications such as a Level 7 (Masters).
   • Engage in reflective practice and continuous professional development, attending clinical meetings and contributing to the development of best practices.
4. Organisational Impact:
   • Support the practice’s administrative workload, including handling pathology results and electronic records.
   • Contribute to clinical audits, risk assessments, and service evaluations, ensuring alignment with organisational objectives.
5. Clinical Assessment & Early Clinical Decision Support:
   • Apply developed clinical judgement to assess patients presenting with undifferentiated or same‑day concerns within defined competence.
   • Contribute meaningfully to clinical decision‑making by identifying relevant symptoms, recognising red flags, and determining appropriate escalation or management pathways.
   • Support safe prioritisation of patients, helping clinicians manage demand effectively.
6. Delivery of Safe Care Within Defined Clinical Boundaries:
   • Provide safe and structured care for a range of minor illness and/or minor injury presentations, working within established guidelines and urgent care protocols.
   • Use clinical understanding to guide appropriate next steps, ensuring care aligns with best practice and organisational governance.
   • Work with a level of independence appropriate to experience, while recognising limitations and seeking senior input when required.
7. Contribution to Patient Flow & Operational Efficiency:
   • Enhance capacity in urgent care sessions by managing appropriate patients directly and supporting clinicians with timely information, assessment findings, and escalation.
   • Contribute to an efficient, well‑organised clinical environment that supports rapid access and responsive care.
   • Engage proactively in service processes that reduce delay, improve throughput, and maintain safe patient flow.
   • Communicate sensitively with patients to support understanding of symptoms, care options, and next steps.
   • Provide consistent, clear advice in line with clinical guidance and safety netting principles.
   • Contribute to a reassuring and supportive experience for patients seeking urgent or same‑day care.
8. Clinical Governance, Documentation & Risk Management:
   • Maintain accurate, timely, and high‑quality clinical documentation to support continuity of care and clinical safety.
   • Apply an understanding of risk, safeguarding, red flags, and clinical deterioration to ensure timely escalation.
   • Contribute to quality improvement, clinical audit, and governance processes as part of safe practice.
9. Team Collaboration & Multidisciplinary Working:
   • Work closely with GPs, nurses, ANPs/ACPs, paramedics, and other community practitioners to ensure coordinated, integrated care.
   • Share clinical insights appropriately to support safe handover and collaborative decision‑making.
   • Contribute to a positive, supportive team culture within fast‑paced urgent care settings.
10. Professional Development & Supporting Others:
    • Continue building clinical expertise through training, supervision, and reflective practice.
    • Support junior or developing practitioners by sharing knowledge and demonstrating good clinical and professional behaviours.
    • Contribute to continuous service improvement through feedback, insight, and participation in development initiatives.

Qualifications

• Registered Paramedic or Nurse with the HCPC/NMC.
• Non‑Medical Prescriber (V300).
• L7 Minor illness and/or advanced history‑taking module (or working towards).
• Commitment to completing advanced qualifications, including L7 Masters.
• Relevant clinical qualification appropriate to urgent or primary care practice.
• Registration with the appropriate regulatory body where applicable (e.g. NMC, HCPC), or equivalent recognised qualification depending on role design.
• Willingness to undertake further development to expand competence within defined scope.
• Evidence of post‑qualification training in urgent care, minor illness, minor injury, or clinical assessment.

• Experience recognising red flags, deterioration, and escalation triggers.
• Experience working collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.
• Experience documenting clinical information accurately using digital clinical systems.
• Experience contributing to patient flow, triage processes, or rapid access clinics.
• Experience supporting less experienced colleagues or contributing to team development.
