Job Title: Health, Safety & Environmental Manager (HS&E Manager)
Location : Rochdale
Salary : £45,000 to £50,000 + benefits
Working Hours : Monday to Thursday, with early finish on Friday
We are currently recruiting for a leading manufacturing company based in Rochdale looking to appoint a driven HS&E Manager who will oversee the development, implementation, and auditing of our ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 systems. This hands‑on, key leadership role offers the opportunity to make a real difference to the company’s safety and environmental operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain HS&E policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with statutory regulations and industry best practices.
- Drive the implementation of ISO 14001 and ISO 45001, including ongoing auditing and effective risk management across all company sites.
- Lead risk assessments of operations, new and existing, ensuring activities align with health, safety, and environmental standards.
- Manage accident and incident investigations, identify root causes, and work with insurers to resolve claims or issues.
- Oversee statutory compliance, ensuring all local, national, and international HS&E laws are met, including fire safety and environmental controls.
- Carry out regular site audits to monitor safety, environmental practices, and overall compliance across all business locations.
- Train staff and management on safety practices, providing guidance to ensure company‑wide adherence to HS&E regulations.
- Produce HS&E statistics and reports for internal teams and external stakeholders.
- Liaise with external regulatory bodies like HSE and local authorities to maintain compliance and best practice standards.
Key Skills & Experience
- Proven experience in HS&E management, preferably within a manufacturing environment.
- Strong knowledge of ISO 14001 and ISO 45001, including the introduction and ongoing auditing of these systems.
- NEBOSH or equivalent safety management certification.
- 3+ years’ experience in a health, safety, and environmental management role.
- Hands‑on experience in manufacturing operations with a focus on risk management and safety.
- Ability to lead and influence teams to drive a culture of safety across all levels of the organisation.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to effectively train and advise employees on safety matters.
- Familiarity with chemical‑based environments (desirable).
- Experience liaising with external regulatory bodies such as HSE and local authorities to ensure legal compliance.
Qualifications
- HND or equivalent in a technical or engineering discipline (or related field).
- NEBOSH certification or equivalent in Health and Safety management.
- Experience in ISO 14001 / ISO 45001 is essential.
- Quality management certification (desirable).
