Location – Trafford, Manchester

Pay Salary - £36,459 per annum while working the 3-shift rotation. Upon successful completion of training and competency assessment, the salary will increase to £38,056 after the probationary period.

Job Overview - Machine Operation Only

We are looking for a motivated and detail-oriented CNC Operator to join our clients machine shop team. In this role, you will operate and monitor CNC Vertical Turning Lathes (VTLs) to manufacture high-quality wheels for the rail industry, working from technical drawings and engineering specifications. The successful candidate will take pride in producing accurate work, maintaining high safety and quality standards, and contributing positively to the team environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate and monitor CNC Vertical Turning Lathes safely and efficiently.
  • Manufacture components in line with technical drawings and specifications.
  • Use precision measuring equipment to check tolerances and ensure product quality.
  • Carry out routine machine checks and maintain a clean, safe working area.
  • Work closely with supervisors and colleagues to meet production targets.
  • Report any quality, tooling, or machine issues promptly.

Skills & Experience

  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings.
  • Confident using precision measuring equipment.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining tolerances.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently when required.
  • Reliable, punctual, and safety conscious.

Qualifications

  • Time-served engineering apprenticeship preferred, or
  • Ability to demonstrate a strong level of CNC machining experience.

Shift Pattern

This role involves working a rotating 3-shift pattern: 6:00am – 2:00pm, 2:00pm – 10:00pm, 10:00pm – 6:00am.
