BAM UK & Ireland is recruiting a Head of Health and Wellbeing. The position will involve a mixture of working from home and working out of any UK & Ireland office, with travel required across the UK & I. The role covers BAM UK and Ireland, which includes BAM Construction, BAM Infrastructure and BAM Ireland. This role leads the health function to enable and ensure consistent, proactive and risk‑based management of health and wellbeing across BAM UK and Ireland, providing expert advice, assurance and influence to enable the business to go beyond compliance and demonstrate industry leadership.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide UK & Ireland functional leadership for health and wellbeing, setting strategy, standards and priorities aligned to business objectives and the wider HS&W strategy.
  • Lead and develop a health and wellbeing team and external providers, ensuring capability and capacity to meet current and future business needs.
  • Act as a subject matter authority on occupational health, occupational hygiene and associated wellbeing matters across a diverse range of construction, infrastructure and FM activities.
  • Develop and implement health and wellbeing improvement strategies and programmes that drive proactive risk control, prevention of ill health and continuous improvement, positioning BAM UK & Ireland as an industry leader.
  • Provide clear, insightful performance reporting and assurance to senior leaders, on health risks, trends, controls and outcomes.
  • Ensure critical health risks are identified, prioritised and effectively managed, including the development and delivery of targeted campaigns and interventions in collaboration with stakeholders.
  • Lead and influence the organisation to ensure health and wellbeing is understood, valued and effectively integrated into operational decision‑making at all levels.
  • Support adoption and compliance of the CLC Mental Health JCOP.
  • Develop health and wellbeing metrics to raise the profile and performance of health and wellbeing in BAM UK & Ireland and our supply chain.
  • Process owner and supporter for health and wellbeing hygiene to make it easy for people to succeed.
  • Build and maintain strong internal and external relationships, including with peers, clients, supply chain, regulators, industry bodies and professional networks, to influence best practice and emerging standards.
  • Work with the wellbeing team in BAM Netherlands to ensure best practice and learning is shared throughout BAM group.

Qualifications

  • Ability to influence at all levels.
  • Degree or Diploma qualified in a relevant health‑and / or wellbeing‑related discipline.
  • Demonstrable experience of leading multi‑disciplinary occupational health teams within high‑risk or complex operational environments.
  • Extensive practical experience in the application of good occupational health and occupational hygiene practice across a wide range of industrial processes.
  • Deep understanding of the causes of work‑related ill health, wellbeing risks and the design of preventative, proactive and data‑led interventions.
  • Strong capability in developing policies, standards and procedures, with sound process‑mapping skills and effective use of IT systems.
  • Strong industry network.
  • Collaborative, resilient and proactive, with the ability to manage competing priorities and meet demanding deadlines.
  • Confident and effective communicator, able to translate complex health risks into clear, compelling messages for diverse audiences.
  • Ability to travel across the UK & I when required.
