About the Project
We’re seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Section Engineer to join our friendly RIIOT2 Framework project team in Finstown, Orkney. The RIIOT2 Framework projects focus on energy infrastructure, primarily building new substations to support Scotland’s transition to net zero.
Location & Working Schedule
The successful candidate will be based in Scotland and must work on‑site in Orkney following a two‑week rotational schedule. Accommodation and meals will be provided on site, flights and all travel costs from home will be covered, and a living‑away subsistence allowance will also be included.
Team & Responsibilities
- Set a high personal example of safety and environmental behaviour.
- Communicate with foremen and gangers to ensure full understanding of information provided.
- Confirm in writing any verbal instructions received from client/designer/RE staff and maintain comprehensive records of resources employed on additional works.
- Arrange formal checking of setting out and ensure check request form is completed.
- Maintain reasonable survey book standards and daily diaries by engineers.
- Ensure inspection and test plans are completed and digitally recorded.
- Prepare 4‑weekly programmes in conjunction with the section foreman.
- Monitor the 4‑week programme, marking up progress for review at the weekly site review meeting.
- Prepare written risk assessments and method statements for the control of the works.
- Keep a full and accurate daily site diary.
- Carry out material take‑off and requisitions as requested by the sub‑agent/agent.
- Ensure all delivery tickets are cost‑coded and passed to the finance team for processing.
- Ensure that testing/sampling of materials is carried out as required by the specification.
- Supervise chainperson, assistant and site engineers.
- Monitor the work to ensure that any unsafe work conditions and non‑compliance with company policies and procedures are promptly remedied.
- Maintain good working relations with client/designer/RE, together with our supply chain.
- Ensure that the 3D information drawings and specification documents contain sufficient, accurate information for the construction of the works, and formally request any missing information.
Qualifications
- Degree, HND in Civil Engineering or equivalent NVQ Level.
- CSCS Level – Academically or Professionally Qualified Person/Supervisory/Manager.
- SSSTS.
Desirable Requirements
- Successful experience at site engineer level.
- Qualified to ICE Technician or Incorporated Engineer level (preferred) or equivalent.
