BAM UK & Ireland is recruiting a Pre-Construction Manager to join the London construction segment. This role will be based at the London office and covering all the London and Southeast region. BAM operate a flexible working policy.

Reporting to the Pre-Construction Director, you will lead and manage the preconstruction process for a range of construction projects across the region, predominantly within the education sector. The role involves managing the process from tender stage to main contract award. This will include inputting into the expression of interest, tender and negotiation stages, and developing the construction strategy and methodology. You will work with clients, consultants, the supply chain and the internal BAM team to achieve this.

Specific duties and responsibilities:

  • Reviewing tender information received and developing the bid strategy.
  • Take full ownership of bid submissions including co-ordinating, writing and reviewing the work of others and identification of key differentiators.
  • Manage and liaise with bid managers and writers.
  • Establish the tender delivery programme, input into tender resource schedule/budget, internal governance and monitoring progress.
  • Leading internal and external tender meetings.
  • Visiting the site of the proposed project to assess all construction related items, including any constraints that may affect the build process.
  • Meeting with the client and/or designers to better understand any constraints on the project.
  • Identify and help select all necessary consultants/designers/supply chain partners to support the bid.
  • Engaging the client, designers, and supply chain when developing the building design and construction methodology.
  • Preparing the presentation slides for any mid and post tender interviews.
  • Managing the second stage of the tender process through to contract award.
  • Visiting live construction sites to understand the performance of projects to inform future tenders.
  • Supporting National/inter-regional bids and initiatives as required.

  • Ability to lead the preconstruction team ensuring design, commercial, planning and construction disciplines are coordinated throughout the preconstruction process to deliver profitability throughout.
  • Good understanding of how to positively influence health and safety during tenders.
  • Excellent communication skills with our clients and consultants and the ability to align our offer and add value to their projects.
  • Ability to gain the confidence of all parties involved in the bid and project delivery team.
  • Confidence to challenge the proposed construction methodology/sequence, commercial, programme and design aspects to ensure a best value offer.
  • Strong analytical, organisational, commercial, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience in collating and writing content material for quality tender submissions.
  • Good knowledge of MS Office programmes including PowerPoint, Word and Excel.
  • A degree qualification or equivalent and CIOB or equivalent.
