KierBAM are a Joint Venture (JV) partnership between Kier and BAM UK & Ireland. BAM UK & Ireland's infrastructure segment is currently delivering the redevelopment project at a Royal Navy site located in Plymouth and are seeking an experienced Assistant Commercial Accountant.
The Assistant Commercial Accountant supports the finance and wider commercial team by completing commercial accounting activities, including invoicing, cost analysis, budgeting, and financial reporting. This role helps ensure accurate financial records and supports decision-making through analysis of financial and commercial data.
You will be part of the Commercial team of the KierBAM Joint Venture. We are currently delivering a large redevelopment project at a Royal Navy site located in Plymouth, worth approximately £600m over the next five years.
Due to the sensitive nature of the site, BPSS security clearance is required. Please note that this process can take up to 8 weeks. Eligibility criteria: Candidates must hold a passport from a NATO or MISWG member country and have resided in the UK for the past 5 years.

In this role, you will be working in a live MOD facility. Your day-to-day tasks will include:
- Support month-end and year-end closing processes.
- Balance sheet and P&L reconciliations.
- Monitor, analyse and report on commercial costs, margins, and variances.
- Assist in budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning activities.
- Prepare & post journals and intercompany recharges.
- Liaise with internal teams and external clients or suppliers regarding financial transactions.
- Ensure compliance with company policies and accounting standards.
- Support audits by providing relevant financial information and documentation.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records.

What do you bring to the role?
Essential:
- CCAB part-qualified or AAT full qualified.
- Strong working knowledge of accounting principles and commercial finance.
- Proficiency in accounting applications and MS Excel.
- Strong analytical and numerical skills.
- Attention to detail and accuracy.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
- Regular office attendance at least twice weekly to enable a thorough understanding of site operations and needs.
Desirable:
- Experience of similar role, preferably in Construction.
- Knowledge of NEC 4 Option E contracts.
- Knowledge and experience of using the Causeway suite of products, particularly Causeway Project Accounting.
- Knowledge of the Construction Industry Scheme and Domestic Reverse Charge VAT accounting.
