BAM FM is recruiting a Multi-skilled Maintenance Engineer to work in conjunction with our site-based staff at University Hospital Southampton. You will carry out planned maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance tasks as they occur across the site.
Working a rotating shift:
- Shift 1: 8:00am to 4:30pm
- Shift 2: 1:30pm to 10.00pm
You will also be part of the on call roster, offering 24/7 support to site, typically 1 week in every 6 weeks.
Making Possible
- Carry out planned preventative maintenance and complete all required paperwork and reports.
- Demonstrate strong knowledge and experience in planned and reactive maintenance of ventilation and mechanical equipment, including associated electrical systems.
- Perform maintenance, testing, and fault-finding on a wide range of equipment such as plumbing systems, boiler plant, ventilation units, pumps, switchgear, controls, cables, small power, and lighting.
- Liaise with and supervise subcontractors, ensuring compliance with method statements, risk assessments, and safe working practices.
- Read, interpret, and diagnose faults using as-installed electrical drawings, schedules, contract specifications, and equipment documentation.
- Identify required spare parts, raise orders through appropriate channels, and monitor stock levels.
- Conduct planned and reactive maintenance of ventilation and mechanical plant in accordance with HTMs and SFG20 standards.
- Ensure all tasks are completed within contractual timeframes.
- Support other team members as required or directed.
- Contribute proactively to reducing on-site energy consumption.
- Undertake Authorised Person (Ventilation) duties if required.

What do you bring to the role?
- Minimum 4 years’ experience as a ventilation or mechanical engineer within a busy service environment.
- HVAC qualifications are desirable.
- Training or experience in general Health & Safety regulations, including preparation of risk assessments.
- Self-motivated with the ability to identify concerns and defects without supervision.
- Reliable, demonstrating consistent attendance, positive attitude, and competence.
- Basic electrical, plumbing, and mechanical skills.
- Support the fulfilment of health and safety responsibilities within the hospital.
