Overview
In this role you will lead MEPH pre-construction technical design assessments, ensuring early-stage solutions meet ERs, sustainability goals and client expectations. You will validate design proposals, manage risks, and steer technical direction before design freeze. Working with cross-functional teams, you’ll drive assurance across audits, BIM, and energy performance to support buildability and planning. Your work shapes project outcomes from the outset and supports cost-efficient delivery.

Responsibilities
- Drive early-stage evaluation of MEPH designs at tender and pre-construction stages, ensuring alignment with ERs and client expectations
- Challenge and validate consultant proposals, identifying omissions, risks and optimization opportunities before design freeze
- Ensure technical assumptions, calculations and strategies are evidenced and justified
- Lead structured design audits across RIBA 1–4 for quality and compliance
- Produce evaluation reports detailing compliance, risks, gaps and actions
- Assess MEPH system strategies, plant sizing, integration and lifecycle considerations
- Review early-stage modelling outputs (thermal, energy, Part L) and verify target achievement
- Coordinate cross-discipline input and lead pre-construction workshops and interface reviews
- Oversee BIM deliverables from a pre-construction perspective and support cost certainty and planning
- Provide technical leadership in tenders and procurement, shaping scopes and documentation
- Promote best practice and capture lessons learned for future projects
Key requirements
- Extensive experience in pre-construction MEPH design management within main contracting or consultancy
- Strong technical knowledge across building services disciplines
- Deep understanding of thermal modelling, building physics, energy compliance and performance engineering
- Experience reviewing and coordinating design documentation, BIM models and technical submissions
- Strong communicator capable of challenging consultants and influencing outcomes
- Professionally qualified (CIBSE, IMechE, IET or equivalent)
