Occupational Health & Safety Advisor – Construction

Overview
Support construction operations in the Scotland region, based out of our Stepps/Kilsyth offices. The role involves a mixture of working from home, on site, and across the Scotland construction business, with travel across Scotland and occasionally to England.
Responsibilities
- Stay up to date with codes of practice, health and safety literature, and legislative changes.
- Participate in sharing best practice.
- Keep H&S Manager informed regarding compliance and monitoring of H&S within Business Units.
- Perform duties of H&S Adviser in accordance with relevant statutes.
- Advise all levels of management on preventing injury, improving safe working methods, ensuring legal requirements, provision of protective clothing, and managing hazards from new contracts.
- Maintain current legislation and references across all Health & Safety documentation.
- Assist in ensuring the formulation, monitoring and use of BAM's Health & Safety Policy and procedures for compliance and best practice.
- Liaise with BAM Design Managers to advise compliance with the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations.
- Carry out site inspections and audits with site management for safe working methods and statutory compliance.
- Investigate and determine causes of accidents or near misses, report and recommend prevention measures.
- Assist with safety training for all employees and promote awareness.
- Maintain contact with official and professional bodies including Health and Safety Executive, Fire Authorities, Institute of Occupational Safety and Health and others.
- Foster a culture where safety and accident prevention are integral to business and operational efficiency.

Qualifications
- A degree preferable but not essential.
- Chartered Member of IOSH or working towards it.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and other digital technologies.

- Ability to work with little direct supervision.
- Exemplary written reporting skills.
- High‐level time management and organisational skills.
- Ability to present to large and small groups, including formal training.
- Strong research and reporting capabilities.
