BAM UK & Ireland is seeking an experienced and motivated Senior Commercial Manager to join our growing team, delivering major civil engineering projects across Scotland. Our current projects are part of the energy infrastructure sector, focused on building new substations that support Scotland’s transition to net zero.

In this role, you will be responsible for two major infrastructure projects within the ASTI Framework with a combined value of approximately £500m in a supervisory/supporting role, sitting above project delivery reporting directly to the Regional Commercial Managers and Commercial Director. The position requires flexibility to work across our area offices in Inverness and Kilsyth, as well as at various project sites.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain effective communications with the Framework Director, Regional Commercial Manager, Commercial Director, project management and other associated disciplines, enhancing the profile of commercial services.
  • Handle staff matters, including succession awareness, recruitment, development, attitude and behavioural issues, competency and retainment issues, and staff allocation.
  • Provide commercial contact with supply chain partners and key supply chain management.
  • Ensure audits are carried out and feedback is provided to the business.
  • Provide commercial input to contacts with clients and, if necessary, client’s representatives.
  • Provide commercial advice to the site team in connection with all project issues and give input to area commercial discussions/reviews.
  • Participate in discussions concerning project performance and provide commercial input to project strategy.
  • Manage the Project Commercial Managers to ensure production of monthly cost and value reports, quarterly forecasts, and company-tied costs.
  • Obtain cash-flow information and, alongside the Project Commercial Managers, present all reports.
  • Support and input to dispute identification and management.
  • Support and input during negotiation of insurance claims with the insurer’s representatives.
  • Agree terms and engage legal and commercial consultants and monitor their accounts.
  • Maintain contact with supply chain partners through contract vetting and input to contract documentation.
  • Carry out sub-contract document vetting and input to sub-contract documentation.

Qualifications

  • Experienced Commercial Manager with a proven track record on large-scale infrastructure projects, ready for the next step up.
  • Joint Venture experience.
  • Member of a Professional Institution or working toward application of the ICES, or similar.
  • Open collaborative approach and willingness to help and assist others.
  • Educated to Degree level in a relevant Commercial, Construction or Project Management qualification (preferred but not essential).
