Building a sustainable tomorrow. At BAM, we are currently recruiting for a Social Sustainability Manager to join our Scotland team, based in either Aberdeenshire or Inverness. In this role, you will lead and support the delivery of BAM's social sustainability initiatives, including:

  • Social Mobility: promoting employment, education, and training opportunities.
  • Foundational Economy: supporting investment in social enterprises, local businesses, and volunteering activities.
  • Social Inclusion: delivering community support programmes and equality, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) initiatives.

Working closely with both internal and external stakeholders, you will help plan, promote, deliver, monitor, and report on BAM's social sustainability commitments and impact. The role offers a blend of office-based, home-based, and project site working. Social Sustainability Knowledge:

  • Acts as a subject matter expert, promoting the strategic importance of social sustainability with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Applies and advises on social value frameworks, measurement tools and industry best practice.
  • Keeps abreast of policy, research and industry developments, sharing insight to drive continuous improvement.
  • Develops Social Value opportunities across stakeholders and partners with awareness of associated risks.

Strategy and Planning:

  • Leads the development and delivery of social sustainability plans aligned with National TOMs, client requirements and BAM objectives.
  • Delivers social sustainability initiatives across Social Mobility, Foundational Economy and Social Inclusion activities.
  • Supports regional strategies, working groups, events and communications activities.

Compliance and Assurance:

  • Develops and applies policies, procedures and reporting processes to ensure compliance with business requirements and best practice.
  • Oversees documentation, assurance processes and project reporting standards.

Stakeholder Management:

  • Develops stakeholder mapping, engagement and communication plans.
  • Builds and manages strategic partnerships to enhance social impact, reputation and opportunity.
  • Supports engagement with disadvantaged and underrepresented groups and leads Diversity Impact Assessments where required.

Community Engagement:

  • Develops meaningful partnerships with community organisations and stakeholders to maximise social impact.
  • Coordinates stakeholder engagement and communication activities in collaboration with marketing and communications teams.

Socially Responsible Procurement:

  • Integrates social sustainability requirements into procurement, contract and supply chain processes.
  • Supports suppliers and subcontractors to improve social value performance and maturity.
  • Promotes compliance with relevant legislation, certification schemes and ethical standards.

Work Winning:

  • Supports bids, tenders and work-winning activities through case studies, local needs analysis and tender responses.
  • Represents BAM in client presentations, interviews, behavioural assessments and early engagement activities.

Diversity & Inclusion:

  • Champions diversity and inclusion across projects, teams, clients and supply chain partners.
  • Encourages collaboration on D&I initiatives, sharing resources, knowledge and best practice.

Research and Analyse:

  • Analyses performance data and provides insights to inform strategy, planning and client reporting.
  • Researches best practice, industry trends and local drivers to strengthen social sustainability delivery.

Measure and Report Impact:

  • Manages the recording, monitoring and reporting of social sustainability activities and outcomes.
  • Analyses qualitative and quantitative data to evaluate impact and inform decision-making.

What do you bring to the role?

  • Informed by thought leadership, best practice and research related to Social Sustainability.
  • Demonstrates a track record of leading in a team environment, with management capabilities and experience.
  • A high degree of energy and self-motivation.
  • Previous experience in a similar role, applying social value and social sustainability principles, preparing and delivering social value plans and leading performance measurement and reporting.
  • Ideally a degree level qualification or equivalent.
  • Experienced in stakeholder management/community engagement and managing and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Champions Diversity and Inclusion related to social value and stakeholder management.
  • Knowledge and experience in National TOMs and expertise in using tools and techniques to assess social value outputs, impact and outcomes.
  • Demonstrable experience of writing high scoring tender responses and supporting tender submissions.
  • Excellent organisation/time management skills.
  • Enthusiasm and ability to inspire, influence and engage a broad cross-section of stakeholders.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrate BAM Values: sustainable, inclusive, reliable, ownership, collaborative.
  • Be highly competent in MS Suite especially Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • A willingness to travel regularly throughout the region, and UK&I as required, and ideally a full UK driving licence.
