BAM UK & Ireland's Infrastructure Segment have an opportunity for a Senior Design Manager to join our team on the Eastern Green Link 2 project (EGL2). The Eastern Green Link 2 (EGL2) project will see the creation of a 525kV, 2GW high voltage direct current (HVDC) subsea transmission cable from Peterhead in Scotland to Drax in England. BAM Infrastructure will provide the engineering works for the 2 converter stations.
Your team: Hybrid working, with requirement to attend project offices minimum 3 days a week at either Drax, Selby, West Yorkshire or Peterhead, Aberdeenshire.
Making Possible
As Senior Design Manager, you'll be responsible for the following:
- Take a leading role in delivering the Design on EGL2.
- Establish and promote best practice in health, safety, sustainability, cost, time, buildability and appropriate quality matters.
- Liaise with subcontractors, design team members and external consultants, creating a collaborative environment to deliver design information that meets the clients requirements and conforms to building regulations.
- Assisting with the selection and scope of suitable subcontractors for Contractor Design Portions and working drawings.
- Performing reviews of technical proposals and deliverables.
- Developing and maintaining an awareness of SHE hazards and associated risks and demonstrating a commitment to eliminate or minimise those risks by design.
- Review and management of design programmes, monitoring and reporting via programme updates, trackers & progress meetings.
- Identifying opportunities and working with project teams, design consultants and supply chain partners to improve the design by considering how to improve safety, enhance buildability, improve quality, and provide best value compliant solutions.
- Co-ordinating the whole design process, proactively managing design interfaces, risk, change and technical output.
- Organising and chairing design co-ordination and design progress meetings with the design team and supply chain, ensuring that design risk assessments are produced.
- Promote business in design and construct by personal contact with employers and stakeholders, demonstrating high levels of commitment to their requirements.
What do you bring to the role?
- Strong leadership and management skills, with a positive and collaborative approach.
- Graduate or equivalent qualification.
- Preferably Chartered Engineer.
- Practical experience of harmonising design and quality requirements with buildability and programme requirements, and a strong desire to problem solve are essential.
- Experience in design procedures and standards.
- Experience in design and/or engineering management of civil engineering infrastructure and buildings, with knowledge of the work process in design offices through successful experience of design delivery coordination, ideally including MEP, Fire and Security, MEICA etc.
- A wide and varied experience of the construction process through concept and detailed design to construction phase and handover, and understanding of the planning, management and technical skills necessary to undertake the role.
- Excellent communication skills, both at the personal level and more formal reporting.
- Ability to work in a collaborative multidisciplinary team environment.
- A good commercial understanding of contracts, procurement routes and risk management.
- Prior experience in projects on energy networks, HVDC schemes or related disciplines will be an advantage.
- The role will require a can-do and collaborative approach, coupled with strong leadership and management skills.
- Enthusiastic team player, able to listen, understand, engage and motivate, and with confidence to make decisions when required.
