BAM Infrastructure is seeking an experienced and motivated Project Director to join our Energy Networks team in England/Wales. In this role, you will lead a project team through both the pre-construction and construction phases of HVDC Converter Station Projects circa £150M-£250M in value. You will play a pivotal role in delivering critical infrastructure which supports future renewable developments across England and Wales.

Your team BAM is pursuing a number of HVDC Converter Station project opportunities with National Grid across the midlands, east and southeast. You will lead a multi-disciplined project team in supporting initial tenders, providing early contractor involvement (ECI) and pre-construction design and planning services, before mobilising to site and overseeing the construction/delivery phase. The role requires a degree of flexibility in location to suit these opportunities. It is anticipated that there will be an initial phase of hybrid working during the pre-construction phase, followed by a period of client co-location before moving to site for the construction phase.

As Project Director, you will be responsible for:

  • Leading the delivery strategy and development of the technical solution for the project/s assigned.
  • Building and Leading a multi-disciplined team, including Civil, Electrical and Building services Engineers; commercial managers and quantity surveyors; planners and programme managers; Health Safety, Environmental and Quality professionals.
  • Ensuring all Safety, Health and Wellbeing (SH&W) requirements are met including all Statutory and Legal obligations, BAM procedures and Client requirements.
  • Fostering positive relationships with the client team which supports BAM's customer account engagement strategy and philosophy.
  • Ensuring all Environmental, Sustainability and Quality requirements are managed in relation to the project.
  • Overseeing the processes for identifying and managing project opportunities and risks and associated mitigation strategies.
  • Engagement and appointment of key supply partners and major subcontractors required for delivery.
  • Ensuring all contractual obligations associated with the project are met.
  • Regular reporting to the Business Unit leadership team, across all areas of delivery, including commercial & contractual matters, progress and programme, delivery performance, horizon scanning and risks and opportunities.
  • Collaboration with any JV Partners (if applicable) and reporting to any associated JV Board.
  • Developing and leading strategies to build continuous improvement across all areas of delivery. Supporting company and client initiatives to foster efficient delivery and the development of a highly engaged workforce.

What do you bring to the role?

  • Degree, HND in Engineering or equivalent.
  • Successful performance and experience at a Senior Project Management level or above.
  • An excellent communicator who is able to articulate successes and challenges, negotiate terms and conditions of Contracts and build relationships with the Customer.
  • Demonstrable experience of leading and managing multi-disciplined teams on or within projects of similar size and complexity.
  • Technical and/or Managerial Knowledge, aligned to the delivery of schemes of similar size and complexity.
  • Experience and knowledge from working in similar construction environments and associated forms of contract (typically FIDIC).
  • Ideal (Not essential) knowledge and experience of working with National Grid or a similar regulated client or in a similar market, such as working within a High Voltage or other regulated environment.
